Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook
Well I'm 18 and I'd definitely say that Google deserves to top the "cool" league more than apple or any of the others do. But regardless: The sample size is minuscule, the concept of "cool" is incredibly vague, bordering on ridiculous, in fact its nearly an insult to the younger people simply by analyzing that we address everything based on how cool it is.
It's also a silly scale because "cool" will never translate into sales. I know plenty of people who really want apple products, but they can't have them, and unlikely ever will, due to the extortionate pricing of all apple's products.
Ok, "youth of today" rant over.
Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook

Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook
but them surface pros they be sick man innit
Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook
I really don't understand why Google are regarded as so 'cool' these days. Pretty much none of their core markets are things that I'd regard as 'cool'... office applications, email, search engines, advertising. There's nothing particularly cool about Google's hardware either - sales figures will back that one up. Android is 'cool' in some respects, but it's an operating system.. at the end of the day. How cool can an operating system be?
Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook
I vote Google, just for how informal a huge company can be, but any measure of 'cool' is just bizarre. If cool was, in any way, truly important, all the chavs in the UK would go out and vote: then we would have a Prime Minister Ali G, bringing subsidised Beats and free data for unlimited Jeremy Kyle on the go. Cool should not apply to technology, just as it shouldn't to voting- the Monster Raving Loony Party might be cool, but I wouldn't vote for them. Cool doesn't even mean anything for sales- Ferraris are cool but they sell barely any of them.

but what about their awesome concept projects, google glass, and stuff like that, they are a very innovative company and i would love to work there as well
Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook
I can tell I'm getting old because at the ripe old age of 41 years, I see all of those companies as a bunch of data-raping corporate ratbags who want to fill my life with advertising and/or deprive me of my hard-earned cash!! :D

I don't think that it is "never", but merely "not always". Which is still significant enough of a market to tap into. Truth is that even Apple products are mass market products as far as I am concerned. I can see how most people (in a developed country) won't be able to purchase a Ferrari even if they were to starve themselves.. But most iWhatever costs less than what many students spend on alcohol and cigarettes in a year. Incidentally, those two are sometime used as a "cool" badge too. I'd argue that spending/"wasting" money on tech toys is less bad than something that wreck's one's body (not that I really care how people choose to live their lives as long as it doesn't involve others).

Makes sense, over the last few years my opinion of Microsoft has gone up (26 at the moment).

... internet social networking - Twitter and Facebook.
Since when is twitter a social networking platform? It is a micro-blogging site/application.
May as well call forums social networking along with online newspapers and blogs.

I find it strange that a survey of less than 1000 people is a large enough data set to be reported on let alone of any use to anyone.
Re: News - The youth of today: Microsoft is cooler than Twitter and Facebook
But which products are they thinking of?
Microsoft - Xbox
Apple - iphone
Google - search box
