It's a cool concept, but it's way less precise than even a normal touch screen, never mind a mouse.
Fascinating stuff, glad research into different UIs is going off in interesting directions unlike say, Win 8 (which I use as '7+' with Classic shell, not even touching Metro).
Certainly can see the advantages in 3D modelling (eg for map creation in games - the clunky interface like the one used by Hammer (Source-based) really put me off, tho I realise that's ancient).
However, it looks a bit impractical as an add-on to existing systems. The Leap motion thingy (http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/on...app-store.html) seems a better bet, especially if paired with a stereoscopic monitor.
