Re: News - Sky to become second largest UK ISP as it snaps up O2 and BE

Oh darn. Now I know why O2 locked me into another cheap 1 year deal a couple of months ago. I'm not a fan of the Sky empire and its effect on broadcasting at all. Never had a product from them and never planned to.

I've really enjoyed being with O2 too. Great service at all times; compensation for a major outage, fast, excellent UK support, router update without being asked, and a discount for being an O2 phone customer. I guess all good things have to end eventually. In this case after only five pain free years. I jumped to them after Pipex were bought out and the quality of service took a nosedive.

I have 10 months to look for the next port of call. Oh joy.

Re: News - Sky to become second largest UK ISP as it snaps up O2 and BE

Im so incredibly disappointed in this and really hoping the competition commission have something to say about this. Sky are a monopoly who completely abuse their position in the TV market charging outrageous prices and taking competition to court when they try to undercut them. They have had the most disgraceful CS whenever Ive needed to talk to Sky and they are the rudest, most arrogant and deceitful people Ive had the displeasure of talking to.

Have been a member of Be since Be launched pretty much as Golders Green was one of the first LLU exchanges they did. It has been without doubt the best customer service Ive experienced online and the broadband is top notch (max speed, no limiting/throttling, great price, english CS and emails/texts whenever they expect a maintenance problem of a few hours).

Gutted to have to find a new ISP and tempted to actually prevent the merger. Damn bloody Sky.

I'd move over to Sky if they were cost effective, however they tend to be rather expensinve once the discounted honey moon period expires.

Moved to BT Infinity after my O2 contract expired last year and I've had a pretty good wexperience with them so far.

Re: News - Sky to become second largest UK ISP as it snaps up O2 and BE

I'm with BE* & found the service ok but hated the router ! I'm now moving on the basis that there service will go down hill with this buy out.
I pay £17 for BB & £13.50 for evening & weekend calls (inc line service).

I looked around & there are only 4 LLU services (2 I won't think of using) that I can use:

BT - 18 month contract for Unlimited BB & Phone, pay for the router to be sent to me for £7 - some offer - £31

Sky - 12 month contract for unlimited BB & Phone (with caller ID free), no delivery charge for their "new" router - 6 month free BB (save £10 pm) - £29.50

I've gone with Sky as the term is better, its cheapest & pay less outright. Sky will do a fiber service when it reaches my area...

Any one tried the website for BE* ? It's down...

    EDIT Back up now....

As mentioned before I have had not great speeds with my Sky connection. However,I would say that latency was always reasonably good and Sky does not have DL limits.

So,as long as your speeds are fine, don't worry.

Gotta agree here, in my area they're the only llu service and I get 19.8mbit, my speed never drops in the evenings and they're the cheapest by far fully unlimited service, especially as there's no "fair usage" speedcaps either.

Pissed off BE customer. No Virgin Media in my area but FTTC is supposed to be available to me in about 4 months, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that slide again.

Interesting, think I might jump ship to Plusnet or BT for FTTC.

Plusnet have £38 cashback through quidco + 3 months half price. Pay the line rental up front and it drops from £13.99 to £10.49 / month.

Works out at £30ish a month for "unlimited" fibre broadband, line rental, evening and weekend calls.

I've just done a spreadsheet calculation on BT vs Virgin vs Plusnet and Virgin come out well.

For 30mb broadband, Basic Call package and 12months line rental in advance. With quidco and the 6months free, it works out at £12.50 per month. For 60mb it's £5 more.

The crazy thing is that is almost twice the cost not to have a phone line. I cannot fathom why that is the case, but there you go.

oh bugger not good. I have no option other than BT, O2/BE/Sky or TalkTalk but to be honest my connection is so slow it doesn't really matter to me anyway.
