Would be interesting to see if it was smoked by WP8 5 inch screen, will need some serious battery power behind it.

Because everyone complains that their phone is too slow. Luckily no one ever wants a longer battery life, so this thing will sell like hot cakes.

Yup i think 4 cores is all you need in a phone, I think performance is where it is required for mobile devices and now we just need mobile power! I would much rather they stick to the current performance of say the S4/600 series now and just improve battery life and connectivity.

It could help it, as as I understand it, it's meant to work like 2 quad cores working almost independently. One set of quads to work for higher demand things and the other for everything else.

Now, if they could manage it so that the lower-spec cores are used 90% of the time and the higher-spec ones only fire up if something like a game is launched, then it could dramatically improve battery life... I've no idea how feasible that is though, if at all.

    That's what I saw/ read somewhere too.

If they allow it to be rooted, you might be able to control that part of it more easily.

I just hope it's not plastic!

That's "high quality" plastic though. On a serious note I have no issues with my S3 build quality but I can understand some may

Don't really regret getting a Nexus 4 instead of this, I'd imagine that 8-core processor drains the battery very quickly, as does the 5-inch screen.

The US version will not be octo core, it will carry a different 4 core CPU like the HTC one.

Its not really about making the phone run faster. Windows 7 on a i7 is no faster than windows 98 on a Pentium 2 at running the simple OS.
Its all about opening the possibilities , more power for games, video encoding etc etc.

The Note 2 has a brilliant battery for a device with a big screen and big guts to power it along. I think the S4 will be fine.. Lets face it, we only expect a days life now from a smart phone. Want a better battery, buy a Nokia 6310 - on ebay....

Samsung have proven very well that their plastic (as you put it) is more durable and better for a phone than say Apple's all aluminium design.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it does.

AFAIK only 4 cores are ever active, and that's either up to 4 of the weak ones OR up to 4 of the the stronger but guzzling ones, what combo of what depends on the application and power state.

Surprised to see a PowerVR 544, where is the usual Mali T6xx we'd expect in a Samsung phone?

And the glass on the 4/4S! I think I see more cracked iPhones than undamaged ones.

S3 - especially with the JB update is fast enough to me. Given my battery is getting closer to it's first birthday I'm giving serious consideration to replacing with one of those Mugen higher capacity (but not physically larger!) packs.
With that said, am I the only one for which turning on Google Now means halving the battery life?

Agree mostly. I honestly can't see much justification for the "plasticy" comment made by the naysayers - it actually feels pretty solid to me. The only exception to that is the battery backs, which are flimsy enough to give me serious worries about battery changes, (luckily something I don't do at the moment).

Actually, the only change I'd make to the S3 design, and this is purely a personal thing, would be to make the S3 a little thicker so as to make it fit a little better in my hand.
When the Galaxy S4 is released it will be interesting to see if Samsung keeps the Galaxy S2 and S3 around and what prices these previous flagships may dip to.
I thought the S2 had already been dropped - although what happened to the "S2+" that was mooted at the time the S3 launched. The idea of having something the quality of the S2 as a very affordable device was quite appealing.

And also, what the heck happened to the wireless charging back that the S3 was supposed to get?

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

S2 was dropped but I believe there was plenty of stock around as you could get it for £21 a month recently. I think the S2+ is mainly the same anyway! I agree my S3 most of the time is plenty fast, although audio seems worse on JB as does ram useage
