This kind of stupid DRM is one of the main reasons why piracy will continue to flourish.
I'm not paying that stupid price for a game I can't even play offline in single player mode, seriously, what the hell are these people thinking...

There's a new DRM free SimCity type game called Civitas on Kickstarter, IGN News covers it here.
People have an emotional attachment to the franchise, being as it is one of the older series of games. People are more than entitled to get worked up when the developers created a game with so much promise, only to have EA cripple it with a bunch of server-side requirements, none of which I would imagine the core developers responding "hey, that sounds like a great idea!".
I don't think he is advocating piracy though.
Anyway, there are plenty of city building games now, unlike in the past,so TBH EA can do what it wants, as it means people have alternatives now,and the best way is to support the alternatives with sales,if people think EA has neutered the game.
Actually, it's not that simple. Not playing it means sales figures look bad... they don't make another Sim City.
You have to refuse to buy the game and go the effort of telling EA why. If they're daft enough to put these "features" in the game to start with, then they need it to be spelled out for them... they're not going to infer the reasoning purely on the sales figures.
It has the added advantage of them not been able to say 'piracy cost us a sale'. Just as much as I hate the myth put round that a lot of pirates are simply trying before they buy, I hate the myth that everyone who pirated it, would have bought it had they not been able to pirate it.
I've known people to pirate entire collections of music albums they've never listened too. In no way is it a lost sale, it's more a click that was convient and some weird must collect and hord vibe.

I was never going to be buying this after I heard about the online requirement but the Ars preview made it sound a bag ****e of anyway. Sim City 4 Deluxe for me.
Come on EA, dont too greedy. Greedy + bad product = bankrupty

I signed the petition. I've been voting with my wallet up to now with titles that insist on including Always On DRM, but this tactic hasn't been too successful for me whilst the rest of the flock keeps on purchasing them.
