Well that's not really surprising is it? I would guess that the PS3 is still on a par with 'most' PCs. Maybe not most gaming PCs, but most PCs.

the PS4 will out-power most PCs for years to come.
If he's talking about Gaming PC's not general computers, that's one funny man.
I fail to see how that system will overpower a mid range gaming PC even for a year.
Re: News - Just Cause dev claims “PS4 will out-power most PCs for years”
Yep, given 'most PCs' are laptops and tablety type things these days I'm not surprised.

"8GB of GDDR5 RAM" - not just normal RAM. It's getting common to have 8GB of normal ram in a machine, but if they've got 8GB dedicated to the graphics card then that's plenty ahead of the curve atm.

It's not dedicated - it's shared RAM. It's definitely a good amount, and that they used GDDR5. However, it's hardly world-beating even at the moment. Most PCs have in the region of 4-8GB system RAM (DDR3) and 1-2GB (GDDR5 - and *actually* dedicated this time) for the GPU so.. probably on a par with current really (referring to gaming PCs here, not your average beige box ofc).
The real step-up up is over the paltry 512MB (MB!!) that the last generation shipped with, which was pretty pathetic even at the time tbh
The GPU is a bit of a disappointment, although console games are generally better-optimised but still.. the truth is that although the PS4 (and the new xbox) will be huge steps up from the old gen, the cycle of PCs far outstripping them in brute force is going to be repeated again this time around. Probably the best news from all this is the fact that all the platforms are finally sharing the x86 architecture (taken of course, from the PC and not the console market.. no coincidence there).
Re: News - Just Cause dev claims “PS4 will out-power most PCs for years”
The specs don't make me want to go and buy a next gen console however I'm entrusted to see the performance. Benefit of consoles is direct-to-metal programming rather than having to use direct X. Also the fact the architectures are x86 should make it very easy for developers when designing games for the next gen consoles as PC

Fixed your article's title for you.

Well soon we'll have DDR4 Ram mwahahahaha :D

What people are not realising is that the PS4 has a massive amount of memory bandwidth,as it uses a 256 bit memory controller. This means more bandwidth than the Pitcairn XT GPU in a HD7870 graphics has available. Considering that CPUs in PC generally have low memory bandwidth anyway,it compares very well to a PC in this regard.
The PS3 and XBox 360 have very limited bandwidth, especially for the graphics card as they used a 128 bit memory controller. Even for the time the PS3 GPU was lacking memory bandwidth. The desktop version of the GPU used in the PS3,had a 256 bit memory controller,so even at the time the PS3 launched it was not ideal.
Moreover, with a lighter OS,and the fact that consoles, due to their fixed specifications, tend to be have software better optimised for them,so I think we should not judge them too badly ATM.
On top of this, the PS3 launched on late 2006. At that time 256MB of system RAM was not even a large amount for a PC,and the 512MB of shared RAM in the Xbox360 was not that massive either.
In comparison the 8GB,of DDR5 in the PS4,is not that bad in quantity.
The CPU is actually a 2GHZ eight core AMD Jaguar SOC.
The quad core tablet Jaguar has around the same CB11.5 score as a SB ULV Core i3.
Hence, the CPU is not far off the multi-threaded processing power of a 2GHZ mobile Core i7 CPU.
Re: News - Just Cause dev claims “PS4 will out-power most PCs for years”
amazing - the first comments show a complete and total lack of any knowledge at all.
why do you think they can still knock out reasonable titles on what is 8 year old hardrware?
because of straight to metal.... they dont have silly things like directx in the way , so can code directly for compute (even at DX11 comparable)
you home pc cant do that , simply because sony know exactly whats in each and every PS4 , whereas your home pc can be anything from an nvidia GT430 up to a titan.... and all are DX11..
and cat is right , whilst not definitively confimerd , huge rumour mill says a 2ghz cpu (websites were saying 1.4ghz) ; that and the `on_the_fly_ shaders means they have alot of flexibility to hand , which your home pc does not.
Re: News - Just Cause dev claims “PS4 will out-power most PCs for years”
It will out perform most PCs I would think as the code will be very well optimised for the system. It won't "Out Power" them though.

He noted that consoles were overtaken by the gaming capabilities of PCs several years ago.
Hmm, and theres me thinking that the Xbox 360 & PS3 were always the little brothers to gaming PC's, which will always be the case with consoles. Even inexpensive PC's built for gaming will out perform them. We only get similiar / worse perfomance when a game was made for consoles first since they don't re-code for the better components.
Re: News - Just Cause dev claims “PS4 will out-power most PCs for years”
At least its an improvement on the currently lame consoles. I'm just hoping the console ports will improve as the consoles do. I'll still never get a console as it just doesn't offer the versatility of a PC.
