Fair enough. I too have experienced similar problems. Only today i was testing a host billing system that failed to commit using Chrome, yet worked fine in IE. I had a similar problem with Chrome and Ajax posting last week. The worst thing about IE i have seen recently was flash compatibility issues.

Thats the current situation yes, however I noticed Google had quietly installed a new app on my phone without my knowledge or permission: "Google Settings" which has an option for them to track your app, location and data usage to provide Targeted Ads. Now seeing as the browser does this already, they are clearly paving the way to provide personalised ads to your phone / apps.

Perhaps when you call "Mum" on mothers day, an ad will pop up for flowers? Who knows, but this greed from google has destroyed their reputation in my eyes. Ads are fine if they aren't an invasion of privacy but now they are going too far! I avoid everything but the search engine itself now when possible.

You're possibly/probably right in the ad-creep. On the other hand the official justification for GS was to provide easier/faster access to your Google "experience"

And there are the options in there to turn off location tracking and ad-mob ads - which surely has to be a good thing?

Not having a go at you, but it really amuses me that there's still folks who bleat on in forums about "how dare Google" splat ad's here, there and everywhere and Chrome, Drive etc need to be free and ad-free. Not realising, of course, that all these goodies need to be paid for in some way.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Right, but it shouldnt have to include 'targeted marketing' using your personal details. Then again - if you agree to the terms...

Point taken, but I fully expect advertising as part of my online experience. It is when the ads become intrusive that I take offense.
I am happy with ad breaks on the TV every 10 minutes, or in my magazines I buy.. But when adverts are being forced onto you so much and in a way that removes the enjoyment factor from the experience then thats just corporate greed putting financial gain ahead of the consumers.

If google kept the ads respectable to the consumer and didn't try and get ads into every nook and cranny, then AdBlock plus wouldnt be needed.

    Edit:
The settings in Google Settings allow you to turn off Targeted Ads, not to stop data tracking or general ads etc.
