Re: Size - I'm still hoping for an S4 mini.
Get a set of disGuard screen protectors - my S3 fell off of a chair onto an upturned 3 pin plug and while the screen protector was noticably scuffed/ripped, the screen underneath was still pristine. Only downside is that the disGuard's are an absolute swine to put on. But the matte finish ones are pretty good at protecting the screen.
Not sure I'd like the "less thick" bit - the current S3 is a nice size in my hand, and I think thinner might make the S4 less comfortable.
Good way to put it and probably quite apt.And where's the wireless charging they promised for the S3!!!!
Got to say that for a new smartphone user or someone who's reaching the end of an S2 contract, the S4 would probably be a good choice. I can't see many S3 users going for it though - other than those who just have the latest moby.![]()
I really don't think that smartphones are something to upgrade every year. So yeah, I'll pass on this one, but I guess that most phones are designed for people who do not have the direct predecessor, or smartphones "enthusiasts" who do not mind throwing money for subtle improvement. As far as the size is concerned, the S3 is way past the size I can comfortably use in one hand, so I guess that I do not really care too much if the S4 is a bit bigger.
Anyone know if its got wireless charging?
This is something I will have in my next phone!
So, have Samsung "done an Apple" with this? Mirroring the sort of update Apple did from the 4S to the 5?
Slightly bigger screen that creates more problems than it solves, a spec bump that isn't strictly needed, and a few little hardware addons that people don't really want but are nice "nice to haves".
Oh and a Siri clone that will be just as pointless as Siri on iOS.
hmm...people complain at Apple not innovating - looks like their main competitor hasn't either in this cycle.
Big difference is Samsung have the S3 and Note 2 on the market that are brilliant up to date devices still and really there is no need for the S4 - Apple have failed to really keep up with the demands and trends of what people want.
I think the HTC one looks like one brilliant device. The reviews I'm reading are clearly placing it as the best smart phone on the market. I think this is the phone that will save HTC and also challenge the S4 over the next 12 months.
Really?
Screen: S4 has a larger, higher res screen
CPU: S4 has a slightly faster CPU depending on the exact model.
Ram: 2Gig available on both the S3 and S4
Storage: 64gb available on the S4, would have been on the S3 too but there was no demand (according to Samsung)
Camera: 13mp on the rear now (up from 8), front unchanged
Battery: 2600mah now but needed due to the new screen
Other connectivity: Nothing new
Software: Android..nothing special that's different (that can't be upgraded)
So it's a spec bump, with a slightly bigger screen, which is what Apple did with the 5. The 4S can do pretty much everything the 5 does, but it's more durable, smaller and frankly looks better.
At least with this update people can't make the last claim about Samsung since the case design has not really changedSure it will sell well, and has been mentioned it will be a great upgrade for all those S2 owners.

I have to agree with Spud here (with everything except the implication that the 4S is "durable"). They have gone for the same, 'if it aint broke' logic i think. It worked for Apple and now that Samsung seem to have created a brand with a relatively high level of cache, guess they figured they could pull it off. Personally i don't think that Samsung have created their status from the Aesthetic design in the same way that Apple did, so im not sure they can but time will tell.
Certain chipsets support certain frequency bands and different countries have different ones available for mobile use. That's my understanding anyway!
Hehe fair point about durability - I am basing that on the fact that I was given a 5 as a new work phone, which despite being looked after is now covered in scratches/dents all around the edges, but my 3 year old iPhone 4 which has been fairly roughly treated has not got a single scratch/mark on it![]()
