Apple says the iPhone is “made with a level of precision you’d expect from a finely crafted watch, not a smartphone”.
They've obviously never bought a finely crafted watch before. Not dissing what casio do, I think it's amazing what they can offer you for £4.99, but seriously, if my seamaster had scratches on the anodized bit I'd have laughed at the sales person. In apple land you just say it enough until they start beliving it I guess... Hmm who has had that idea before ;)
Re: News - Apple’s new “Why iPhone” page seeks to reassure buyers
Surely people visiting the site are well aware of the iPhone anyway, who isn't nowadays?
Doesn't seem anything to different to any other manufacturer though, they've just put the marketing blurb all in one place. Although they've all done similar things before (hint: it's called marketing) is this Apple feeling the pressure a little?

And I've never had a watch explode or catch on fire before.

I'm just proud I got a Godwins in the first post on an Apple thread!
Anyway, queue the appologists in 3,2,1.
Re: News - Apple’s new “Why iPhone” page seeks to reassure buyers
Hmm marketing spin writ large - as the article says. :p
Really don't think that - these days - iPhone is doing anything better than the competition are. Good device? Undoubtedly. Better than the rest? No.

iOS 6, Siri and iCloud are the next items on Apple’s Why iPhone list.
Would this be "we've got an operating system and a cloud offering, along with a cause of frustration for a good few people"? LOL

Apple concludes its Why iPhone sales pitch by reminding buyers that if they get any problems with the iPhone there are “real people who know everything there is to know about iPhone and iOS” at the end of a phone line or you can visit any Apple Store to get help.
Hmm, I've got mixed experience of this. The local (Glasgow) Apple store were a total and utter complete waste of time - think PC World level experience with added condescension. On the other hand, Apple's support folks (Eire?) couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Assuming my "retail" experience was uncharacteristic, then I'd be happy with their claim of "highest customer satisfaction".

"Only iPhone has [insert Apple-specific marketing term here]"

This has actually been my experience with the apple store guys (and this was when i had a macbook). They think they are best in the world... but that's because generally 8 out of 10 people that go into the store are either apple sheep or completely clueless. If one person goes in who has moderate computer knowledge (such as myself) and starts calling them up on their nonsense and/or asking difficult questions, they get extremely defensive and skirt the issues.

Yeah it's pretty desperate, isn't it.
Surprised they didn't just say "Only iPhone is... iPhone" and be done with it.
Re: News - Apple’s new “Why iPhone” page seeks to reassure buyers

Remember Samsung's "It doesn't take a genius" ad campaign? Maybe this is Apple's official reply?
If you don't remember that one, then here's a link to it.

and for all the Windows 8 fan's here's a respin.

Actually kind of surprised myself how well spec'd the Lumia 920 is.

Better has always been about what you need though. Two things I prefer on the iPhone:
1. Apps
2. Japanese keyboard
Two things I prefer on the S3:
1. MicroSD
2. Removable battery
I do note that there are exclusive apps on each platforms, it just so happens that after weighting them out, the iOS wins it for me. It could be different for others, and that's fine.
And of course there are Japanese keyboards on Android/S3. But I find that they take more hassles to use (takes much more effort to toggle around if I want to write in English and Japanese and draw Kanji).
Still, for them having to justify to the buyers "Why iPhone", it does seem that the pressure is on. I wonder what the sales figure of the iPhone will this year.
Re: News - Apple’s new “Why iPhone” page seeks to reassure buyers
My mother has the new Blackberry Z10 and I prefer its interface to the iPhone. This marketing blurb doesn't change what smartphones I would recommend and if anyone had a preference for Apple products I will try to persuade them to change for their own good.

I can't comment on Apple Store employees but when I was refurbishing Apple products for Cancom my colleagues tried to tell me the reason an 80Gb hard drive wasn't exactly 80Gb was because the software automatically reserved some space... when I explained the difference between bits and bytes they didn't believe me. The person I was working with got me to explain it to the manager thinking I'd make a fool of myself but he confirmed my information, was really strange that they had such little understanding of hardware when they were fixing it. They also suffered from the "Apple is best" dogma which I hated.
Luckily it was only a temporary job.
Re: News - Apple’s new “Why iPhone” page seeks to reassure buyers
`better` APps?
thats subjetive and down to what you want;
i had an issue with the way an App worked on my SGS1 - so i contacted the author , explained what i wanted and if it was possible and he said ` let me have a look`
3 days later i got an email asking me to download the customised app ; it worked exactly how i wanted it to.
happily sent the author ` a damn good drink` for his effort.
theres no way at all you`ll get that on APPLE. ever.
