re: US/UK spec. If it wasn't - it'd be significantly cheaper to ship one over, even factoring in delivery costs and 20% VAT etc.

Refreshing to see a laptop listed with a decent resolution screen!

US Keyboard layout though :(

Surprised to see a refresh with IB - would have expected them to wait for Haswell. Not sure if the new keyboard layout is an improvement. 12GB strikes me as a bit odd too - guess 4GB soldered + 1 dimm. Have used the T420 1600x900 screen but for my eyes it's a bit small...
Thinkpads come with international warranty (not sure if onsite is transferable) so the only US spec part would be the keyboard and the 3GB option, surely?

Having owned a Levono laptop I would hope that they refreshed their support and complaints procedure.
They have always made good machines, it is the aftercare that is sorely lacking.

That's not Lenovo, its IBM you have to blame...

Close call between this and the Portege R series. I'm not sure that the high res screen is worth the extra cost though.

Good point - but a little tinkering could fix that (software settings only if you don't care about the appearance) and for that price difference...

It is Lenovo as they provided the support not IBM. I even raised a formal complaint with Lenovo which was totally ignored.
Lenovo UK has no customer care or complaints team nor any method of making one to them. You have to engaged with Lenovo Europe which promptly ignores everything.

Unless things changed in recent year its was always IBM who provided support for Lenovo products...

Agree with Lenovo Support (not IBM anymore) especially their crappy voice recognition system. However once you get to human on the phone, the support is great. The problem now is to convince them that your notebook is actually faulty. They tends to want to lead you to believe that it is not hardware fault but OS or App's fault.
I spoke to both India and USA support personnels, depends on the time of day you call. USA support personnels are better equipped to answer your complaint though.
Unfortunately, I will rate their hardware repair centre as 'terrible'. Very often the hardware was returned in worst shape than it originally went in e.g. faulty keyboard returned when system board was replaced.
