Yes to the bulky charge - anyone who thinks otherwise should look at the device in the picture in the article. Ugly though is in the eye of the beholder - as the cliche says. Give you 10 to 1 odds that Apple will (a) Make a "wrist brick" fashionable, and (b) Claim the credit for "inventing" it.

Hmm, interesting coincidence that 100% of the Sony Xperia owners I surveyed also bought a Sony smart watch. I persisted with that watch although I've not had a chance (translation: couldn't be bothered) to try it with some non Sony kit. Reliability (at least for my Gen 1 device) did improve with later s/w revisions although I'm going to agree that the need to periodically "remind" the watch that it knew about the phone sitting next to it was galling. Then again, how much of that was due to Bluetooth's inherent issues - e.g. my Nokia featurephone keeps forgetting it knows about my Plantronics headset.

Speaking as someone who owned/owns one of these devices, the one that'll take off is the one that is more reliable than is currently the case; less "geeky" looking than currently the case; and has better functionality than is offered presently (it's a "oo, that's nice what is it?" rather than something I could have a sensible justification for).

Samsung's display tech could probably deliver the "less geeky" device and undoubtedly Apple could deliver on the better functionality. Also interesting that we've had no Apple fan boys levelling the "omg, spamsung are just like copying again", which of course ignores the fact that others have already trod this path before (not least of which Sony). Not that I'm complaining...

Why would you want the same thing in your pocket as you have in your bag?

Re: News - Samsung confirms it is preparing a smartwatch

If they can eventually make one of these with months of battery life* i'd be interested, i don't like the idea of having a wristwatch you need to manually charge weekly or more though...

I'm quite happy with my cheapish casio watch otherwise: i have one that syncs the time by radio signal, thats plenty smart enough for what i use a watch for

    *tiny fuel cell maybe?
