Aye there's some truth in that - although it does give a place for the loonies to vent their spleen rather than doing it in the street.

Interesting that all the folks in the article seem to be angling towards YT moving to some kind of subscription service. Instead I'd expect Google to move more paid-for "premium" content on there - leaving the home-brewed stuff on there as a gentle introduction ... "If you enjoyed this free content, we have similar available on premium channel XYZ, would you like to setup a trial subscription?"

Or, as someone of my acquaintance pointed out, it's a good shop window to entice you to generate that Google ID that then allows them to data mine you silly.
