Re: News - Windows Blue leak reveals several UI tweaks

I took the plunge towards the end of January and upgraded my main machine to Windows 8.
I got used to the Start Screen very quickly and it never really bothered me. However, a couple of weeks ago I decided to install Windows 8 and, yes, I much prefer the old menu.

Just give the option for Metro UI or not and be done with it. It's a shame that people will not go near 8 because of it, as it's a fine OS.

Having had a chance to have an extended use of '8 I'm going to agree that the start menu "issue" isn't a big deal - as long as I can get to search quickly - and the darned thing actually works consistently (e.g. it managed to "lose" Device Manager the other day) then fine.

You're probably right in that there is a lot good about it - problem for me at least is that in it's present form I'm still going to spend a lot of time swearing at it. If they can improve the UI then I'd even cautiously welcome MUI/Metro. Roll on Windows 9...

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

If that is your only worry, add one with powershell or get Start8 or similar. There are far more significant things to love/hate about win8 than the lack of a start menu.
True that, and to be honest it takes no time at all to get used to the new start menu. It really takes no time at all to get used to the other changes too, and when you do you can appreciate the extra features and updates to all the other parts of Windows.
