Thanks (I think) ... darn, I'll just have to keep looking for another reason (not for BF4 now, but the other stuff that reportedly runs better on Intel). Although I suppose an FX might be possibility if I want to stay loyal to AMD.

Urm, hand up - here's one person who definitely IS bothered beyond the MP capabilities.

Agree - he's being a bit daft here. "Autumn2013" is good enough for me - especially as we all know that EA (and others) will be looking carefully at what else is due to launch in that timeframe so they get the maximum amount of PR bang-for-their-buck. Ignoring past experience, it's common sense. And, while it might be daft thing to say, I'd prefer EA/DICE took their time with BF4 rather than launch some bug ridden mess that needs a month or two's patches just to get to "barely playable". I'm betting that launch will be October.

Hard to tell what the limits are. That said, having to do an undue amount of "squad management" is going to destroy the pacing of the SP campaign - so while it's really nice to get squad members to do supressing fire etc, I wouldn't like to have to micromanage the way that was sometimes the case in Ghost Recon. But that's just me and I'm sure there's control freaks out there who are disagreeing strongly!

EDIT: Just watched that 17 minute trailer - if the gameplay portions are representative (i.e. not carefully chosen and equally carefully edited together) then BF4 looks to be very special indeed. Particularly like the destructible cover!
I had a 7970 for a bit and I have a GTX 670 now, which runs BF3 better in my experience. Along with my 4.5Ghz 2500K It can run BF3 very well at 1080p with settings bumped right up to the top apart from MSAA on x2. However, I do get some brief frame rate drops to about 40-45fps when things get crazy during a 64 player game! Judging from that gameplay footage I would say that I won't be able to do the same with BF4 if I want to keep a near on solid 60fps. Well, unless they do a better job of optimizing this one. With almost any game I can settle for this. But Battlefield games are just so good that I always want to run them at their best! I really hope I can avoid upgrading again haha. I'll probably be SLI'ing this 670 within weeks of that BF4 release lol.... Good luck all :/

I'd be very happy with 40fps+, actually a MinFPS of 25-30 would probably be okay (I'm old so my eyes don't see the flicker - haa haa). But the point you bring up about optimisation is a good one - NVidia and AMD both have been optimizing like crazy for BF3 (or at least I've seen mention of "improved BF3 performance" in a lot of the release notes). In which case I idly wonder how much of that BF3 goodness will also be applicable to BF4 (since I'm assuming they're using the same graphics engine).

Oh, and BF3 on the PC IS beautiful to look at - everyone raves about Crysis, but in terms of looks possible on a reasonable setup (no quad SLI rigs cooled by LN2) the old BF3 is appealing.

Oh (#2) there's also the BF4 MP beta for all those folks who bought the MoH:WF packs. Got mine on the XBox, but have my fingers crossed that the MP invitation is for both console and PC.

Beta for BF3 Premium peeps as well.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Being controversial (perhaps) I thought that the BF3 single player was better than the equivalent in the latest CoD - at least on the PC at any rate.

That's good for you man I wish I was the same but I find the older I get, the less I can handle low frame rates >_< I got to have 55fps minimum these days or it screws my head up lol! Also I find the mouse response far to laggy and frustrating with lower frame rates. Seriously though man, good for you if you don't mind it!

Hopefully you can play that beta on the pc. I'm guessing it depends on which platform you purchased MOH? I would like to play the BF4 Beta. But at the same time, I'm glad I probably wont be because I want to get as much out of BF3 as possible before BF4 comes out. Sorta lost interest when Armoured Kill came out and didn't live up to my expectations. Aftermath won me back a bit, it was pretty cool. But then the latest one just didn't really capture my interest to much, other than one of the levels. They introduced new bugs and still haven't fixed the lag bug that's plagued us from day one! That's what annoys me. But I bet you this issue will be magically fixed in BF4 and made well known to make sure everyone buys it lol.... Anyway, I've started ranting and I didn't mean to! Stop

Re: News - EA releases Battlefield 4 trailer and gameplay videos

That got a big yawn from me. Bored of the game as a whole and I'm just tired of the tanking because of crappy hit detection/lag and the inconsistent nonsense in BF3 (e.g. the amount of times I've been in tank duels where 2 shots to my front reactive armour is a disable while 4 to their plain rear armour isn't is a joke). I won't hold my breath for this 1 being any better.

This is all way to soon if you ask me. End Game only just came out for goodness sake. I hate what the success of CoD has done to this industry.

Frostbite 3 however is looking bloody amazing. To much sun glare/lens flare though

    GPU - AMD: Radeon HD 7970 - Windforce X3 1Ghz/OC Edition (Gigabyte)
    CPU - Intel i7 2700k Stock 3.5Ghz OC 4.0Ghz
    RAM - 8GB GDDR3 1333MHz Unbuffered

I think you've nailed the point there with "I hate what the success of CoD has done to this industry". But I don't think we're gonna see any changes until the industry dies some more. I do miss the older days of pc gaming where games would get this legendary status and have people playing them for years and years (Battlefield 1942/2/2142 for example). They would get support most of that time too. But as with everything in life - if we keep buying it, they keep selling it!! It's our money that tells them what's right, not our opinions.

I wouldn't mind as much if they made existing games work before moving onto the next one. These days we are paying to be "BETA - Stage 2 Testers" when we think we are buying a finished game. Sometimes they get the game to a sort of alright state after a while, but then just ditch it and work on a new one. But we all keep falling for their broken promises and buying the new ones! And on that note, I am excited about BF4 haha.....

hmmm...£44.99 to pre-order after the fail that was BF3 server stability at launch? EA need to think harder about the price.
