Shame, so much history canned...
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Wonder if we will see a bunch of rubbish with a loose connection to StarWars appear now as they milk the franchise.
Pretty stupid way to do things imho - so any 3rd party that wants to do something around the Star Wars IP is basically going to be starting from scratch? From my humble viewpoint it would surely have been far better to have tried to "sell" the team - and the half-finished (?) titles they were working on to another publisher/development house. At least that way they would have perhaps got some of the money already spent back, (and saved on forking out for redundancy packages as well). The official statement from Disney read as follows: “After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimising the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we've had layoffs across the organisation. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.” Only a “small team” would remain in place to handle games licensing issues.
The brainless bean counters strike again...
That 1313 looked really good! can't see why they would can a game that was that far into development
And the outlook for star wars gets worse and worse. No chance I'd give a new film a chance. Disney sure know how to such life out of an idea! Must take ideas from ea!
Personally see this as good business sense from Disney. Lucasarts was not very good anymore. Most good games with the Starwars brand were done by other companies - like Bioware.
Long gone are the classic ideas like Monkey Island, Day of the tentical etc
Hardly canned, times change. Some old names may get a fresh rebirth from other companies - Hopefully X-Wing vs Tiefighter.
Day of the Tentacle is one of my top 5 games ever! Real shame.

Star Wars 1313 might be OK:

What about grim fandago. They really should do reboots of the old great titles. Even if it was mobile based games.
Tis a sad time to live in
Sad to see LucasArts being killed off.
The last few KOTOR games were made by Bioware and they were rubbish. The fighting was like playing chesss - deciding what attack to do every second.
I still remember these two good gems :
Jedi Outcast had everything spot on ... the fights, the Force powers, the puzzles. Good times!
This is sad news, hopefully companies will be able to carry on working on stuff like 1313 since it looked epic.
Have to disagree with OilSheikh, whilst the Jedi Academy games are awesome, the two KoTOR games are probably my favourite Star Wars games.
Make up part of a long list of Star Wars games I've played over the years, good stuff.

... I disgress
As a games company they did create some iconic great games, however they did "outsource" a lot of their stuff, for instance Raven Software did Jedi Knight II & Academy; X-Wing Alliance was by Totally Games, etc.
...so they will probably end up just being a licencing house and grant other companies the rights to produce games.
But I always think of LucasArts when I think of Grim Fandango, Indiana Jones & Fate of Atlantis, Day of Tenticle, Monkey Island and all the other classic adventure games, and any of the starwars games with the little lightsabre guy logo
