It’s all about immersion, he explains.

Makes me wonder why Angry Birds has done so well...

This old argument... It's personal preference at the end of the day. Nothing more. What's the bloody point in arguing who's personal preference is right? Everyone's gonna do it though....

That's why Crysis 3 deserved a 6/10?
*whoosh*

That's why I get immersed in a book; because the font they use is better than it used to be... er no, it's because the world is created in my head; that's immersion. He's only 40% right.

Hah, YES.
As much as I'm a sucker for prettiness, there are so few games with high end graphics and the gameplay to match.

Yerli went on to quantify the value of Crytek’s immersive graphics “The better the graphics, the better the physics, the better the sound design, the better the technical assets and production values are – paired with the art direction, making things look spectacular and stylistic is 60 per cent of the game.”
I don't agree that this is wholly true - I've played games where the graphics have been good, but the physics have been "interesting" - for the wrong reasons. On the other hand I've played stuff like "Crayon Physics Deluxe" where the whole core of the game is physics "simulation" but the graphics were suitable for a base spec laptop.
What I will agree with though is that a game with good graphics, appropriate physics, good sound and excellent level design is what everyone strives for. A game that looks pretty but has "ho-hum" level design isn't going to be well received by either critics or customers. Ignoring "oddballs" like tablet/phone games (Angry Birds, Cut The Rope, etc) I was reading an effusive "review" of Just Cause 2 - there's a game with okay sound, reasonable physics, and passable graphics, but where the sandbox nature of the level design makes it "fun". And I'll agree with the reviewer that JC2 is a "better" game than the corresponding Crysis.
As a humble customer what I would look for in something like CoD "campaign" would be something like: 40% level design, 30% graphics, 20 physics, 10% sound - although I'll freely admit that some games would need the positions of physics and graphics exchanged. What's the point of an "immersive environment" if that "environment" isn't one that either feels right or is interesting?!
Re: Reviews - Graphics are “60 per cent of the game” says Crytek CEO
I would agree somewhat with graphics do help to make a game, but good graphics is no substitute for substance. Crysis 3 may look pretty, but it's more of the same...and I was disappointed that it didn't melt my PC as advertised!

Yes immersion is about the story and how you fit into it.
Probably the best immersion I ever encountered was System Shock 2, I also thought Dishonored was quite good on immersion.

A polished turd is still a turd however pretty it may be.
Amazing visuals enhances the gameplay sure but you can't make a terrible story into a great game no matter how much bloom lighting or swaying grass it has.
I'm a sucker for amazing graphics and have enjoyed looking at the details in Bioshock Infinite, yet since the gameplay is lacking my overall experience is massively reduced. I have Crysis 3 on my "Still to Play" list so don't want to judge it's gameplay yet until I can make an imformed decision myself rather than quoting biased reviews.

Re: Reviews - Graphics are “60 per cent of the game” says Crytek CEO
/me goes of to check some of the highest review scored games of all time.
Answer : he's talking out of his exit hole.
Graphics can enhance a game, but they are not the game itself.
Re: Reviews - Graphics are “60 per cent of the game” says Crytek CEO
Which would explain why Crytek games are dimensionless, uncompelling, uninteresting, and unimmerseive. Dude should do his company a favour and resign.
Re: Reviews - Graphics are “60 per cent of the game” says Crytek CEO
Cevat Yerli never played Tetris.
Re: Reviews - Graphics are “60 per cent of the game” says Crytek CEO
Tetris was never immersive though, addictive sure, but that's an entirely different kettle of fish.
