Re: News - New Li-ion micro-battery recharges 1,000 times faster

Just thought I'd chip in with my 2p. My mum wants to get a smartphone so that she keeps up with modern technology. She has an old Nokia which she only uses it once or twice a week. So I advised against getting one because she will find that whenever she goes to use it, it will be flat. Does anyone know of an (android) phone that does have good battery life? Is Amazon bringing one out with e-ink? Surely phone manufacturers are missing out on a trick here?

Thi really should be in a separate thread... but anyway. Samsing Galaxy Ace has pretty good battery life. Mine sits on the side board unused for a good few days before it needs charged. Wifi and BT are off, 3G is on though because I have a Vodafone sure signal box and it works on 3G only. And that's a big benefit to battery life. I get a perfect signal as the signal box is just in the other room which does help with battery as there is no signal hunting going on. Oh, also got Exchange background sync on as well, could probably make it last longer if that was off.

No disrespecting the researchers but as with all battery tech articles from the last 10 years, I will treat this as vapourware until it is in an actual product in my hand. There's a HUGE gap between research and actual economic manufacturing.

Whilst this is great news for longer lasting devices, I'm also wandering in the rare circumstances when a phone battery explodes, will this tech turn batteries in to small bombs?
