News - Can the Nvidia GTX 680 be BIOS flashed into a GTX 770?

We've always known that the 770 is really just a 680 with some tweaks.

Like with the 7950 Boost it's perfectly possible to get extra performance out of the same card, although this time without resorting to extra voltage.

seems tpu didn't get the scoop so is trying hard to discredit it.

well they did release the pics of the gtx 770 and 780 `in hand`.

You can OC a GTX670 to be faster than a stock GTX680...

I'm not saying it is wrong, I'm just saying we shouldn't assume it to be true.

^^ tbh , im leaning towards the `we told you so` after reading a lot more on the interwebs..... that and you can change the id of AMD cpu`s and suddenly get more fps in games...

Who cares? it's just a 680 with bumped clocks, higher volts and a new cooler, hell 99% of 680's can clock way past the 770's clocks. Now we know why they voltage locked the 6** cards, Nvidia con the consumer yet again.

Completely fail if they price it at £400, and then the 770ti AKA 670 at £300, I mean what is the point of these cards? 13 months on and this is what they give us? re-badged 256 bit 2GB GPU's built on the cheap but priced higher than the better performing and higher spec AMD equivalents released in JAN 2012.

Will still get positive reviews even if it's tech from over a year a go and priced the same, 99% of reviewers are in Nvidia's pocket.

Then you can also overclock a GTX680 to be even faster....

I'd rather see some benchies from credible sources first. Power draw and thermal are important so if they can lower those without sacrificing performance then it would be beneficial especially to those upgrading from the more power hungry 400/500 series.

If it's basically the same hardware with a few software tweaks then why not just take the less risky route and over clock (and volt if poss) to achieve similar results.

This is from me with 2x680 that I'd rather not bin by flashing with some dodgy bios with no providence.

Not at all. Their initial news post stated the same as the Reddit guy was saying. They edited it an hour or so later with the new BIOS versions that they hashed up themselves, including an HD8970, once they had checked out the 'fake' BIOS.
