Now do that with the Pro and we might be talking more of a deal... it's just a shame that imminent processor developments will probably make an x86 tablet obsolete even quicker than usual.

Doesn't seem worth it.
Touchcover appears to be the only option now

It's a step in the right direction..but not enough yet.
They desperately need to make these into an impulse buy, which means £250 or less WITH the cover.
Not going to happen anytime soon though..they would lose money at that price and I don't expect we'll see a fire sale (yet).

Just as you won't get a metal android tablet for £250 you won't get a premium windows one at that price either.
I wouldn't be surprised if you can get a decent 8-9" Windows tablet for £200 by the end of the year though.

True - my point was largely that there is only a *very* limited market for RT tablets as it is currently, and that to make the platform a success I think MS need to get devices out there which provides incentives for developers to make applications for it.
At the moment it's very hard to justify £400+ on a surface RT when you can't do that much with one (compared to the leading mobile platforms).
At £250ish it's a compelling purchase for the office functionality alone - at £400..not really.

I think this is the problem they have. As someone who has an RT tablet I would say that isn't true, the Nexus7 is surely the best selling Android tablet, and there isn't anything I can do on the Nexus that i can't on the RT, yet there are boatloads of things I do on the RT I can't on the Android.
My gripes with the RT are mostly win8 separation of settings between MUI and Desktop, the fact you've no idea its doing something in the background, except it will go slow (patching MS office takes about 45min..... normal users have no idea what is going on, or why so slow!).
All in all I really like the RT and use it more than any of my other tablets.
The 'pro' however strikes me as one of those "Hmm maybe in 2 years" things. Same way an ultrabook was worthless to me until you have fast SSDs, lots of RAM and good CPU, right now I can buy ones that tick these boxes for £500, but three years ago I would have been dreaming.
