How does someone get to be VP of a large company while making ridiculous statements like "does not need such a marketing success again"?

With Samsung and HTC making 'Nexus'-ised versions of the S4 and One (minus proprietary software but given Nexus-like updates), I would really like Sony to be given a turn at the Nexus brand. The Xperia Z is a drop dead gorgeous phone and having that (or perhaps a new design iteration) with a Nexus experience could be a pretty sweet deal.
I can't see Sony making it. They're a premium brand and Nexus devices aim for a lower price point. Sony would potentially be de-valuing their brand by allowing Google to sell a Nexus branded device for sub £300.
So how much storage does this new white version have? 16GB or 32GB

It'll probably be Motorola, it would make sense.
The key word is the "such" and also a "marketing success" != "profit success" - the Nexus 4 has raised LG's profile as a smartphone manufacturer but I suspect they would rather capitalise on that with their own devices and higher margins than again sharing the glory with Google. They would like another kind of marketing success - one that bathes them in glory and rakes in big profits.
Samsung hardly need the leg-up, so I suspect it'll be Motorola, either them or HTC as Google may wish to support an old friend of Android through a troubled time.

Are the average users of the Nexus4 so clueless they dont know who made the device? 10-30 seconds on search and they will know?
So this VP thinks its worthless to get their handset into millions of users pockets unless they emblazon LG LG LG all over the OS?

While LG may deny they are not making a Nexus 5, clearly a device is being made by google considering Google pulled Kernel 3.9 and was working on msm8974 defconfig aka a snapdragon 800 device.

Before the Nexus 4, LG's phones had a terrible reputation, mainly because of their rubbish software. I would have thought it would be in their interests to keep selling good-spec phones without skins...
Most average users are daft as a brush but anyway LG is written on the back, Nexus is in larger font, "Google" appears nowhere on the exterior.
The brand loyalty is to "Nexus" and stock Android not LG, people won't buy another LG phone, they'll buy another Nexus phone.
The theory goes that if you've bought a customised Android LG/Samsung/HTC phone+skin and liked it then you're more likely to stay with that manufacturer to retain access to exclusive tools and established usage patterns. Many people hate things changing and will often prefer to stick with what they know.
The Nexus 4 was also sold with low margin, so yes to LG it has limited worth beyond a one-off bit of good publicity to enhance their reputation for good hardware amongst those "in the know". It's not something they (or any other Nexus partner) need to repeat regularly... having established they can make good hardware they now want to lock people in.
