I just don't get chrome os.... At all.

It's more limited than a tablet. I mean do google not see the demand for native apps on Andriod and realise that it always can provide a better experiance than web only?

Except to can type on a chromebook as you can on a real keyboard at a fraction of the price for a Windows based laptop.

I see the appeal, but the lack of Skype is what has kept me away.

But you can do that on a Tablet that has a keyboard? Like the transformer or Dells windows RT offering. Both would give better battery life too (ARM beats crummy celeron!).

    I don't get Chromebooks either.

CBs can be more expensive than a tablet plus keyboard, they're priced the same as Windows netbooks and are only £30 cheaper than entry level Windows notebooks.

I can't think of any reason why anyone would want a CB, they're not cheap and there isn't anything redeeming about them.

They are basic and suitable for those already invested in Google apps or those who do nothing but surf the net.

Skype doesn't work if that is very important, ebuddy/IMO cover IM pretty well.

Where they come up short is hardware and priced too high.

Re: News - Google Chromebooks being sold in Tesco and Walmart

If I didn't already have a netbook I'd be tempted. Only really use the netbook for Google Chrome stuff and watching a few movies. Everything else is what my desktop PC or phone is for.
