That's a monster!! A wonder what DDR4 would offer by then!

Monster, yes. But... why? You'll shave .5 seconds off of unzipping an archive, gain 1fps in your average game, and never notice it the rest of time. It's just not worth it. We need a change in architecture to see real progress.
Oh, nevermind. This is just more rampant measurebating.

Out of curiosity would it make much difference if you had a ram drive. Although I have no experience of using one it occurred to me that it might be a situation where there would be a significant difference.
I have never seen any ram disk/drive investigation which talks about it although then I haven't gone liking into it.

APU gaming.

with frequencies like this, it is comparable to 16 GB of 1600MHz ram and even superior to 16 GB of lower end 1333MHz RAM

Well, not really. You couldn't run a program requiring more ram because you'd still only have 8GB, but more to the point the only differences you would actually see are with APU's where the extra bandwidth goes to the GPU. Even Ramdrives - and I do use them frequently with a Triple-channel 1600MHz system - wouldn't see a benefit as Ramdrives are more cpu-bound than bandwidth-bound. I regularly see no more'n 8GB/s transfer rates on the ramdrive, otoh with a 16GB Ramdrive and 8GB left for games it provides for a better experience than even the best SSD and no long-term reliability issues to worry about, just remember to save your ramdrive to an image before shutting down.

Not impressed. DDR3 1333 CL9-9-9-24 at 1.5V is pretty poor by high end standards and I'm sure a lot of high end ram will do silly speeds with such slack timings and high volts. Looks like it's designed for the same people that buy AMD FX-9590. ;)
