I think its more an issue of getting the custom assembly set up for europe.

You'd think they could still sell them in various standard colors as normal phones are though without the custom assembly part.

An "always listening" phone made by Google? What do the US government need PRISM for, they'll just be able to ask Google!

Okay, I'm tongue in cheek with that, but not with my view on Google. No way will I ever buy a phone made by Google.

So, you walk into a crowded room and shout "OK google now, text wife hope you have finished the washing up you lazy cow" and how many divorces will you have caused?

Many years ago there was a tail of a demonstration for early voice recognition for windows. Lots of journalists in a big room, a PC up on stage. Some wag shouted out "format c colon", another shouted "enter enter". End of demonstration, everyone had to go home. Powerful stuff voice tech, but so easy to abuse!

Haha very true, if it recognises other peoples voices not just your own then your lock screen is pretty much useless.

Being able to set your own command to start an action would also help on the security front, stop multiple devices doing an action and make you sound less like an idiot.

My objection is lower level - I've got an S3 and when I enabled Google Now (which I assume this MotoX is using given the wake up phrase) the battery life was halved. Needless to say it got switched off quite quickly.

And then there's the usual complaint - hands-off use is all very well but it's a shedload less precise and easy to use than poking summat with a finger. Again, with the S3 I remember the "fun" I had trying to get voice dialing to dial my wife's mobile number. No matter what I tried it insisted on dialing the home phone number. To be brutally honest the only time I can use S-Voice is to dial home, and even then sometimes it makes a complete hash of it.

Oh, and is it smart enough to know to listen to a headset if you've got one paired?

I also managed to resist poking fun at the wrist shaking gesture for the camera ...

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

From a purely design standpoint I would say that this thing is in my opinion beautiful! You have to admit that it is fairly innovative in a space where consumers get excited about the white ibrick.

I defo like the wood finish, it looks elegant in a way. However it is only a 720p and comparing to a HTC one @ 1080p, I don't think it's a good buy.

For a phone 720p is plenty good for a screen of 4.5inch of screen giving better battery life.
