I would like to get my hands on a 4K TV for the upcoming game consoles although it make no sense, 4k monitor don't interest me as much but if i have the doh and the graphic card for it am gonna get it.
Don't remember where but i read that the upcoming game consoles will support 4k. Am gonna look back in to that.
I'm sure anyone would like a 4k TV but with that hefty pricetag, I don't see how any normal consumer is going to be able to afford one. I reckon, in 3-4 years, they'll be just as cheap as 1080p TV's nowhere days.Quote:

Why are these screens referred to as 4K anyway? When we refer to 'HD' screens, we call them 1080p, which is the vertical resolution (the 'p' is for progressive scan), not the horizontal resolution (which is 1920). So why aren't we calling these monitors '2160p'? I wish marketers would be consistent!
4K and 8K have been around for years in the video post production industry. I remember Adobe After Effects getting "4K support" over 10 years ago. This was for when film was scanned, effects added and new masters created.
Digital cinema resolutions do make ore sense, as they are 4096 × 2160 for 4K (instead of 3840 × 2160 for "4K UHD" TVs) and 8192 × 4320 for 8K (instead of 7680 × 4320 for Super Hi-Vision TVs).
So basically I think the 4K and 8K names are just historical hang overs.
