I am a geek.
I love good sci-fi.
I hate, completely and utterly despise Dr Who. I have little faith that Blake's 7 will be any better.
Meanwhile, Battlestar Galatica remake was amazingly good until the writers strike.
I just want to say again, what a steaming pile of low grade cow dung Dr Who is. No interesting ideas, terrible plot, worse acting, with cheesy CGI as if its cute. Yuck.

They get it twice.

so that means it will be an almost american cast !!!!
Which means it won't be a proper remake :)
I loved it when i was younger .

Hate the Moffat Dr Who, it's like a speeded up version of EastEnders with CGI. I'm willing to give the B7 remake a chance, although saying that the director also directed Casino Royale isn't much of a recommendation in my book. It'l be interesting to see who they cast, I'm hoping for a bunch of "nobodies" enlivened with a really strong Blake and Servalan - Glynis Barber or Jane Badler FTW in my book!

Saw one episode of the first series and thought the acting was more wooden than the original. Then again, I was hacked off with the way Eureka got dealt with, so I'm not a big fan of SyFy channel.

A remake of the cult sci-fi series Blake's 7 will be hitting the screens of Xbox Live subscribers according to the Financial Times. ... This is seen as an important step for Microsoft in creating original exclusive TV programming ahead of the Xbox One launch.
Hmm, to misquote Douglas Adams, "this is a use of the phrase 'original programming' that I wasn't previously aware of" - how can a remake be "original"?
Re: News - Cult sci-fi series Blake's 7 will return - for Xbox Live subscribers
I don't want to get an Xbox One But Blake's seven was part of my childhood. I'm sure if I watched it now I'd be disappointed though and an American remake?????

I'm torn, it was a really good series with some great characters. The Liberator was a nice ship design and Zen was rather cool...the thought of him being replaced by the Modern UI and mayhaps Kinect.

Sorry I should have made clear, I was talking about the remaking.

The acting for some characters is odd due to the nature of their roles been simplified personas, but I wouldn't think of any that I'd describe as wooden.
However the writers strike really messed it all up. They might as well have just done a LOST at that point.

Original Programming is meant to mean that they are creating content (even if its an existing brand) rather than just syndication.
In the US view of TV distribution, it is considered a leap when someone goes from just buying existing programming, to creating original programming. Now despite this being an old series, the new episodes will be original... Hence Original Programming.

Loved B7 as a kid. I rewatched the first two episodes last year. It really was truly awful. My rose tinted glasses must be very thick.
If they can do something a little bit dark and edgy without being smug and pretentious, the basic premise is good. A lot of the component elements could end up being a bit like the good-but-flawed Farscape...
I suspect however it will end up being infantile toilet-filler like Dr Who.

Agree with you - don't think there's a hope in heck of the Fed's being as fascistic as they were in the original. As to the initial episodes of "classic" B7, I remember reading an interview with Gareth Thomas (Blake) and he was at pains to point out that at that time the Beeb didn't "do" sci-fi, so the budget for episodes was about what a middling Prem League footballer earns in a week.

Yeh, I can just see it now.
"Zen, course 10 by 12 by 14, speed standard by 7"
pause...
"I'm sorry, Microsoft Navicomp has crashed ... would you like to report this"
cheap shot I know. ;)
