4G, or not to 4G, that is the question.
Im on three, so i dont need to upgrade apart from handset. I dont like the data caps that are in place with 4g. One sneeze and your at your limit. Faster content is good but when your only allowed a small portion per month its silly.
Upgrade? No, not any time soon.
My needs are such that I don't need the speed, I live where coverage is basically (currently) non-existent, and where proposed prices and (almost all) data allowances grossly uncompetititve with 3G.
So, no. It offers me nothing I need, not much I even really want, and absolutely nothing I'm prepared to pay anything resembling current tariffs for.
At some point in the future, if they get real about the packages and especially data limits, then maybe. But now? No.
And, of course, YMMV.
As it stands now, no, I can't see myself moving to a 4G tariff for a while. The speeds offered are great but with the city only coverage and a premium price for the privilege it makes no sense to me. I feel prices will start to become more competitive once O2, Voda and 3 roll out there 4G services and coverage over the next 12 months will start to improve, so say in a years time I might consider the move.
Not a chance. Rather see the money spent on improving the existing network coverage issues rather than providing people with such restricted data packages that make the whole concept of 4G useless.
No. My aim right now is to cut the cost of my mobile, not increase it. 3 have some tempting offers, for sure, but their PAYG looks more enticing right now.
Another 3 user here, and my Note 2 is the LTE version :) Been very happy with 3 for the past 4 years, main reason I went with them was that they are the only provider that gives reliable data where I work.
nope - O2 cut the cost of my package on H+ so im happy enough
I've only just found out that BTs roaming 3G is available, get 4 bars out of 5 where i'm sat now.
house is fully cat5'd up with wireless turned off, no mobile devices apart from basic phone only phones, its only because im fixing a laptop with wireless that I noticed the 3G availability.
so as for 4G, not interested in the slightest.
wireless is too much of a security risk for my needs.
at work, because of the way the building is constructed, you can't get a mobile signal inside. If I decided to get a laptop/tablet thingy, 4G is useless there aswell.
as for 'on-the-move' type access - listening to spotify, checking facebook, twitter, news feeds, on the commute type access. well its a 1.5 mile walk that takes 20 minutes, if there's that much of an important things going on, on my non-existent profiles on those type of sites, then I can easily wait till I get to work, where someone else will tell me, or wait till I get home in the evening.
besides there's too much traffic, both pedestrian and vehicles, for me to not look where im going instead of looking at my mobile (which im not sure even does 3G either).
so that type of 4G use is out aswell.
ho-hum. you may ask why i'm even on a tech site if I don't use much of it? :p
maybe that's what I want you to think ;)
Seen as I hardly see any 3G where I live, I somewhat doubt that I'll be seeing any 4G, so there's no point upgrading, or at-least not anytime soon...
Am on Vodafone and they're 4Gifying my city this year. There's a very clear additional £5pm for Vodafone, which is much more reasonable than other providers so I'd say yes.
I'm now just waiting to find out the details of the Galaxy Note 3 and perhaps this smart watch, it'll likely be between this and the HTC One. As interesting as the S4 is, and I do very much like the contactless screen, it has lost the ergonomic feel of the S3, whilst HTC has regained it in its latest device.
No chance for the moment, it's currently too expensive and I can't even get a reliable 2g or 3g signal on Orange.
Will see at upgrade time (Dec), i've been an Orange customer for 12 years and they're offering incentives to get people across to the EE plans now. There's no 4G where I live, but I work a lot in city centres with good 4G coverage so if I can get a better plan for the same money I probably will.
I'm not sure where the high cost mentioned in the article comes from, most of the entry 4G plans from EE, O2, and Voda are offering more minutes, texts, and data than my current plan for about the same cost :undecided
I may upgrade from my current t-mobile contract once other networks have 4G because hopefully EE will drop its prices to a more competitive rate. Although I probably don't need to most of the time. I can stream 720p video at home just fine on 3G
3G is more than fast enough so not bothered, on that same front I am also not paying for fibre broadband as adsl is more than enough and a lot cheaper.
Get my upgrade next month so depending on what Orange/EE can offer with 4G will depend if I will switch or not. Looking to get the Note 3 when it comes out so we'll see what the companies are offering.
