Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

In a typical Apple "we'll name our stuff what we like regardless of who else is" they have named their CPUs "Ax", but now the shiny new A7 makes it sound like ARM's low end core, which is rather confusingly silly...

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

Considering half of the tech in a phone is within the SoC, knowing the name of the SoC doesn't really tell us much.

Although a dual-core Apple Swift (v2) ARMv8 device at ~1.6GHz (1.3x performance) with Imagination Rogue graphics (1.5x performance) seems a reasonable guess. On paper it sounds worse than a quad-core Snapdragon at 1.9-2.3GHz, but the performance will still feel competitive.

I presume Apple will be applying the "Image Quality" story regarding having an 8MP sensor rather than a 13MP sensor.

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

No one who buys an iPhone cares about processors, it is a curious androidisim to be so concerned with speed!

I think going with the 120hz recording is damned smart. It is cheap to do because they've the processing power already paid for, but mostly the insufferable pricks who buy iStuff will love the idea of anyone who's so cool they record their sports, being aligned with the brand. Clever.

Fingerprint reader on the tactile button is another nice one. I miss tactile buttons

However, its all about price now, so the interesting bit will be their low end offering! (if any, might just be buy a 5)

Wonder how long it will take them to patent the fingerprint sensor and start hitting anyone and everyone that has used them for the past 30 years with patent infringements

A feature on an Apple product you admit to liking some sort of derivation of ?? Wait, just let me sit down for a second.... /s

Seems like the usual spec bump, not sure who expected anything else? Although fingerprint reader for the 5S ? Surely thats a feature deserving of the iPhone 6 otherwise what will its 'new' feature be? There isn't much more phone manufacturers can actually do that hasn't been done to death already.

Hmm. Usual spec bump nothing has changed lol. The finger print scanner seems rather pointless at the same time... You always have a finger print on the homebutton so its piss easy to unlock once stealing from someone however kudos to apple if they have made it clever enough...I would have thought ssomething like face unlock and finger print scanner would be enough ?.

Um, the iPhone 5 does 1080p at 30fps so it will double to 60. Though 120fps would be nice.

    I had a launchday iPhone 4....

The issue is I get seriously disappointed with Apple because they overstate and oversell what you can do with it.

    Fingerprint scanner?
Brilliant - makes it so much easier for NSA to collect fingerprints in addition to all the other stuff they're stealing off of our "personal" electronic devices supplied by their stooges
Thanks, Apple...Please add DNA sampler to the iPhone 6 so we're sure that we've been violated in every way possible.

And any other company doesn't oversell their products?
They're slick I'll give them that, they've done very well to get to the position they're in but it's a long way down. Then again Android is supposed to have killed of iOS for the past X years and it hasn't happened yet. Things will start to slide soon though and investors in Apple might jump ship which isn't going to be pretty, it already started when their profits were insanely high but not as insanely high as people had expected.

Anywho, we'll find out what they have in store for us in about 9hrs (6PM GMT I believe?)

Re: News - iPhone 5S specification sheet appears to have leaked

A refresh with incremental features is becoming standard. These days it is hard to have a real competitive advantage once the overall population wises up to the over used and reused marketing tactics employed by apple. At the same time, due to a wider choice base, the mobile handset maker no longer enjoys year on year improvement in revenue as there is absolutely no reason to re-spend the 500 quid you spent just a year ago, to buy incremental features. However, it still makes sense to have an 's' edition because they can't let their position slip too far whilst many customers will be in the market for a new phone in-between their major refreshes.

Still, having passed on buying the iPhone 5 and using a SGS3 for a year, I'm ready to come back to iPhone.
