Personally, don't care. There's too much I don't like about it, and while MS addressed some of my objections, it's not enough to change my mind. Not that I expected them to.

So, I'll stay X360 and PC for now, but whatever my gaming future involves, it looks like it doesn't include MS.

i'll be staying with my 360 a while longer as i can't justify the £429 price tag, i don't want all the extra stuff i'm happy just gaming on a console! and my PC of course )

I already have PCs. Most currently are on Windows. I don't know what Linux gaming support is, because I don't use Linux for games.

I suppose I should have said my gaming future doesn't include new XBox's, though given what I think of Win8, or rather, some of MS's strategic decisions and their effect on Win8, it may be that my future doesn't involve MS at all, though no doubt I'll stick with Win 7 for a while.

So, yeah, maybe I'll end up finding out what Linux gaming support is. Maybe, just maybe, it'll be PS4. Or maybe I'll just give up gaming. But I don't see any likelihood of it including XBO.

Well, consoles have advantages, not least, that they're self-contained, or that family can game without tying up the family computer. In my case, I spend quite a bit of time away from home and the XBox (360) is FAR easier to take than the PC.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "gamer", though. I'm not in the "fanatical" category. Not any more, anyway.

Nothing new to wow me about the 'new' games available on launch. It is staggering the number of non-original games, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Dead Rising, FIFA, Forza, Just Dance, Madden NFL 25!(lol), NBA, Need for Speed etc, Very underwhelming.

Ryse: Son of Rome looks good, but £400 for one game, no way.

Unless they release a kinect-less version the PS4 is looking like the more attractive buy to me.

I will wait for the games before deciding to buy regardless though.

I think MS have put some effort in to making the XBO seem more attractive after getting slaughtered in the PR department earlier in the year. But I still won't get one. I'll probably just sink similar cash in to a new monitor and GFX, play the games I like on PC and emulate the rest.

I do hope that the similar architectures of the new consoles (both to each other and to the desktop PC) will encourage some developers to finally being a decent driving game to PC. A GT/Drive Club/Forza type game on PC would be lovely.

One other comment, my first generation 360's fan sounded like an aircraft.

They resolved that problem 5 years after launch. I wouldn't say that's noteworthy.

I bet they've boosted the CPU 10% and had to boost the fan speed 10% too. Concorde time!

I've got a high end gaming PC and an XBOX360. I won't be buying an XBone it aint worth the money just for the hand full of games that are Xbone exclusives,

It seems sensible to assume that these speed bumps are at least in part due to the PS4 being more powerful. As such are they going to cause heat issues? We all know the problems with the 360 and it is partly why MS have increased the size of the XB1 (and kept the power brick external I assume) MS have said the XB1 is made to run 24/7 for years on end so will this impact that claim?
Looking at the below and using common sense the TDP will increase, a 10% clockspeed increase will give a 10%/20% increase (?) That’s not insignificant and I’m sure they’ve thought this through but is it going to increase noise to compensate?

….Looking at Kabini, we have a good idea of the dynamic range for Jaguar on TSMC’s 28nm process: 1GHz - 2GHz. Right around 1.6GHz seems to be the sweet spot, as going to 2GHz requires a 66% increase in TDP.

It’s all academic for now anyway, we’ll soon find out.

As for my choice, PS4 all the way however not at release (no games that would make me blow £350, a large ‘pile-of-shame’ I need to work through) this would apply to the XB1 as well if it were my first choice of console.

Don't forget that TDPs always depend on qualified silicon: it may just be that yields are coming back good enough they can afford a bump in speed at the same TDP. Plus, I'd guess the CPU cores actually account for a very small proportion of the overall TDP of a chip like the XB1's - the A4-5000 fits in 4 cores @ 1.5GHz, plus a 128 shader GPU, at 15W. Given the rest of the stuff they've crammed on to the XB1 SoC, I doubt the 8 jaguar cores are anywhere near the biggest contributor to the overall TDP...

If they (Microsoft) had either provided a way to run "old" 360 titles on the XBone and/or done a trade-in deal, then I would have been interested. As it stands though £429, is a lot of cash for an unproven device with only really one exclusive title that I'm interested in - Forza.
As to the rest of the line up, they're either ones I've no interest in, or titles that are also available on PC, which means a better version anyway.

In my case it's far, far easier to justify spending that £429 on moving my 256GB HDD-resident "apps" partition to a nice 500GB Samsung 840EVO SSD, and using the remainder for BF4, ACV, etc.

So no-sale Microsoft, I'll stick with PC gaming and my tatty old 360. Of course, when/if time comes for a new console then if I'm having to start fresh anyway, then perhaps a Playstation will get a look in?

More games seem to be "available on Linux" and I'm really hoping that Steam-for-Linux does well, likewise the SteamBox. Actually it's a bit of a shame that my "gaming pc" runs Windows at the moment ... I really need to get around to working out a decent dual-boot setup.
