Re: News - Major update to VLC Media player includes hardware decoding

Out of interest did they fix that bug where if you set a video downloading, then play it while it's downloading, the player will look ahead instead of just using metadata and determine the end of the file (if you've grabbed 20% say) is 20% in, it then won't budge from this belief and need restarting. That alone is the reason I use MPC-HC, otherwise I'd be happy to move across for cross-platform support.

Program I think has grown in size but does work just as well as before. Never really noticed any issues in the first place :-)

A great all-in-one app. Still ugly as sin interface tho. Hasn't changed for years.

Re: News - Major update to VLC Media player includes hardware decoding

I like being able to pause videos in MPC just by clicking on them with the mouse - so simple and useful.

VLC you have to use the space bar, which is a pain when you're sitting back from your desk... When I think about it, that's possibly the one thing that holds me back from using it regularly.

    Is that weird?

Re: News - Major update to VLC Media player includes hardware decoding

Havn't used VLC for years as it just ins't as flexible/powerful as MPCHC. While I suppose it is good for beginners due to being all-in-one, the interface is a mess. Used to be you couldn't even skip forward / backwards precisely, you had to move in chunks.

I don't like having to click on the MPC window to pause it, because it means I have to make more coordinated movements than I would by just pressing the space bar. This is particularly noticeable when I am lying down watching video on my laptop.

    To each their own.

You can remap/unassign mouse button clicks to disable that (I made the spacebar the pause/play toggle). But I agree, it's an annoying default.

mpc-hc plus madvr is my choice but I do use vlc occasionally, neither have quite all the features I want. Here's a tip for the android users out there use remoti.co to control your htpc with your phone or tab.

I wonder if the hardware decoding upgrade will work with the portable versions of VLC? or whether it requires an install/drivers?

VLC user here, this is great news, it deserves its reputation. I always recomend VLC to people, plain simple withought giving you headake where to find this specific player for this/that file.
