Or it could just be a great marketing ploy to garner interest in Steam OS.

I really hope it's not though, I'm of the view that HL2 is possibly the greatest game ever (along side Elite/Frontier, Speedball2 and Sensible Soccer).

I think original HL was probably the greatest game ever. HL2 was a bit of a letdown for me.
The whole grim and grey oppressive regime / Eastern Europe thing just didn't grab my attention the way Black Mesa did.

I wouldn't disagree with any of those. You should really give Deus Ex a go too though, as that's as much a classic as HL2

Funnily enough my opinion was opposite - the spacey thing didn't grab attention, but I really liked the whole 1984/V feel of the second one. EP1 didn't grab at all - only played for about an hour then cast it aside - maybe I should dig it out again?

HL3 is interesting to me purely because it may be the first (but hopefully not only) mainstream title to make it to SteamOS.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Re: News - Valve registers Half Life 3 trademark in EU

I don't play games much anymore (more's the shame) but the Half Life games + episode were games that I loved and completed. It's amazing how few games people (including myself) actually complete (the Valve stats on it are fascinating) but the half life ones were so good that completion was as necessary as it was pleasurable.

And though my time and gaming skills diminish, I know I'll be completing any - probably every - future half life episode/game. There's not many franchises I can say that about.

If they ever do release Half Life 3 it won't live up to people's expectations, they're just too high. That said, I really hope they do make it

If Valve delivers like the other Half Life 2 than all is good.
