Do readers prefer Samsung’s use of the curved screen or does the LG vertical concave display smartphone sound more appealing?

This Samsung phone looks more trouser pocket friendly than having a banana-shaped device, but I don't think I'll be rushing out to replace my S3 with it, (screen's too large for me for a start).

I've also got to wonder whether this curved form-factor is going to cause issues with desk and car mounts.

Looks a bit odd and uncomfortable to me, specially if used landscape. Really don't think curved screens will catch on. So many aspects of mobiles seem to be better for flat devices as well.. Car mounts, flip cases, gaming, spirit-level apps.

Erm, might be the only one to ask it but whats the point? can't really see any advantage to having a curved screen over a flat one.

So it's some motion gimmicks and butt-friendly shape (for those still risking sitting on their phone). I guess it develops the technology to a point where it can be used on other curved surfaces more usefully.

Not that I can think of any useful curved surface uses right now.

I'm with the "what's the point" crowd. A smart phone isn't pocket friendly because its 5" across - not because it's flat! CRT TV's were all curved then everything turn flat and now it's going curved again....

Not that I'm aware of. The LG phone's top and bottom edges are closer to the user than the middle, so - to me at least - it resembles a banana. E.g.

Never mind curved phones - I want a thicker phone that uses the thickness to put in more battery capacity.

Horizontally concave screens are more pocket friendly than a vertically concave screen but that doesn't make having a concave screen any good. I guess if you tend to scratch your screen a lot this would be good but I would of thought that sapphire crystal is cheaper than developing a curved screen.

I might be interested if they make the rear flat and use the extra space on the sides for a larger battery. I've currently got a Mugen Power battery in my 808 making it 18mm thick and it is comfortable to hold with its 4" screen. Manages to last 2 weeks on standby and 3-5 days with heavy use. I'm not willing to give up that battery life for any amount of performance or a silly gimmick like a curved screen.
