Looks shopped (the screen image) so who knows.

More importantly, why is her cup empty?

Re: News - Is the Google Nexus 8 tablet pictured on the Android website?

Could always be a nexus 7 with a screenshot badly 'shopped on top of it. It's very hard to photograph glossy displays at an angle and get a clearly readable screen. Despite the bright sunlight evident in the background there's no reflection or screen glare, strongly suggesting the screenshot has indeed been added in post-production. Compare it to the LG pic which clearly shows screen reflection.

most of the complaints i have read about the LG 8" tab have been about the software, so this could be a real winner!

If this is true and comes in at £200 I'll bite. Otherwise I'm going for the Dell Venue 8 (released Thursday this week) for around £150. It's 8" for 292g. Screen res will likely be lower but at least it comes with a micro SD card slot and probably a £150 price tag.

It IS just a Nexus 7 with the screen pasted on incorrectly. Notice how the side of the device is identical to the N7, and the lower edge of the display isn't parallel to the lower edge of the device.
Some guy who appears to have been involved in the shoot also vetoes it being a mythical slightly-larger-new-tablet.

A Nexus 8 for £200 is a non starter unless the price of the Nexus 7 drops - just took a quick look and there's folks selling the 16GB "2013" model for around that. No, I figure that any (mythical?) Nexus 8 is going to be around £250.

PS, Dell Venue 8? AFIACT that's a US only product. Dell UK seem to be pushing the "Pro" versions which'll be a lot more expensive surely.

Re: News - Is the Google Nexus 8 tablet pictured on the Android website?

Nexus 7 at £200 is a great buy and so would a Nexus 8 device, but with the Tesco Hudl at £130 for a perfectly good enough spec (higher than most) , it makes it hard for most people to spend an extra £70 for power they will not even notice.

The market has changed with the HUDL.

But I want an 8" screen for cheap I might just get the iPad mini and be done with it.

This would be great I also think 8" is the sweet spot.

Maybe it will be - but the info I got was that Dell UK thought that the UK market was pretty well saturated. Personally I don't agree - there's always room for one more body in the sub-£200 shark pool!

At the risk of touting the "company line", there's always the HP Slate 8 (Tegra4 and £279), although the larger (10") is cheaper which is slightly weird in my book. (Edit: it's cheaper because the 10" is only dual core).

Re: News - Is the Google Nexus 8 tablet pictured on the Android website?

There's no device out there that fits this spec:

    8" to 9"
    16:10 ratio / 4:3 ratio
    1280x800 or above res
    HDMI Port
    micro SD slot
    < 350g
    < £200
    2Gb RAM
    Intel 2Ghz Clover Trail

The dell would have satisfied all of this except for the HDMI port which I could have lived without. The Hudl would be fine except for it's 7" display and weight. Surely there's a tablet out there covering these criteria, or thereabouts.

Why Intel? If we're talking about an Android tablet then I'd definitely prefer a nice Exynos, Snapdragon or Tegra4 (for the software support).

It's the "<£200" stipulation that kills it - otherwise there's Archos and Galaxy Tab 3's that might fit the bill.

Oh and the iPad Mini (old model) is just out of reach (£220?) but that doesn't have the uSD slot.

crossy you're right Intel isn't important to me I shouldn't have listed that. Even if I up the budget to £250 there's nothing out there from the major manufacturers.

Hell I'd be happy with just the following

    Less than £250
    Less than 350g
    HDMI
    8" - 9"
