All good news. I can't wait for them to develop suitable technology to prevent you from changing focus or pausing said videos/muting the sound/etc. on pain of account deletion. That'll be great for user retention. Even Google+ starts to look appealing the more that FB mess with this kind of stuff.

So, they not only want to play advert videos, but get users to store them locally?

Well, as someone who doesn't (and won't) use Facebook, I guess I'm not entitled to an opinion, but if I was, I'd be less than impressed. To those that are and don't like it, put up with it or vote with your feet, as it were.

I'd never used an adblocker until Google had the bright idea of putting 30-60 second unskippable adverts to some of the videos, especially annoying when the video you wanted to watch was shorter than the adverts >:[

In fact any site that has anything moving gets the shortest visits and subsequent avoidance if at all possible. Those that must be visited get an entry or two in my Proxomitron Hall of Shame.

Autoplay adverts? This is fantastic news, I only wish they'd done it sooner...

... as it's a perfect example to all those people who keep telling me that I just must be on Facebook of why they are wrong. These folk get really surprised that I'm a refusenik, (especially as I do have Twitter and G+ accounts - the former very grudgingly) - and yes, I know G+ is almost as bad.

For chrome you can get "Youtube Options" which allows you to disable ads, set play quality, disable comments, disable autoplay etc. Very handy add on!

I do use facebook on the odd occasion but I'd have to find a way to either block these vids or an alternative app. Luckily I'm rooted so I'm pretty sure I can block them via the hosts file.

The only people gaining from this is facebook and the advertisers, certainly not the users!
