Dislike that valve announce its USA only right before it rolls out. I know i didnt standuch of a chance but wasted hope sucks :( And are these steam box systems supplied with the valve controller when you purchase them or is that a seperate option?

SteamOS is downloadable tomorrow!?! Wow - I was expecting next year. Guess its missing a lot (such as streaming (which is the feature I most look forward too) but at least it gives me something to play with!

The come with controller.
And worst part is all us non USA people provided valve with personal info such as address all for nothing. It has really annoyed some
Re: News - Valve to ship Steam Machines to testers starting from tomorrow
Valve intended to do a worldwide beta test, but legalities prevented them in the end.
Re: News - Valve to ship Steam Machines to testers starting from tomorrow
I hope the starting price includes the titan not an inferior graphics card.

Indeed, that is the real news here. People can start experimenting with setups and see what works, far more interesting to us than some closed 300 user trial that we won't see the results of.
Shame I am busy this weekend, hope I at least get a chance to download it.
Edit to add: How long do you think before we get cheap knock-off controllers on ebay? :)

possibly, but only if ebay make me... plus you'll have to bare the shame of the world knowing you're a bit lacking in the common sense department, and their scorn and ire at getting undeserved free goods. If you can live with that then great, one dodgy photo coming your way ;)

Unless this is cheaper than Xbox one or PS4 , it won't even get noticed in the market.

No Steam machine here, but I had a go at installing the OS on my spare system and put a bit of a video together. :)

Be careful if you give it a try, the install process in automatic mode will literally erase your hard drive without asking ANY questions. Fortunately I tested it out on a spare system, but it will only install on PCs that can do a UEFI mode boot so pre-Sandy Bridge machines are probably out, and at present they only support NVIDIA graphics cards.
System I tried it with was a Haswell Core i7 with a GeForce GT430 and everything seemed to work pretty much flawlessly, other than having to switch my audio output from HDMI to analogue output for my capture card.
Tested with Super Meat Boy and Portal and both worked straight off, no fiddling required. Literally just installed the OS, logged in to Steam, downloaded updates and then downloaded the games.

Interesting to see, thanks.
As an aside, what is the funky file transfer dialog that you are using during the Windows part? :)

Windows 8 - pretty much the only good thing about it.
Re: News - Valve to ship Steam Machines to testers starting from tomorrow
I don't want to build a whole new "console" and install the OS to play my steam library, but the streaming part has me interested. Is there a chance that the streaming functionality would be do-able on other machines/operating systems? My HTPC is running Ubuntu so it shouldn't be THAT hard, right?
