The oil platform I'm on right now have officially banned Smart Watches from being taken out of the accommodation. As they are a lot more than a regular watch power wise, they pose an increased spark risk with oil and gas processes.
It's not just going to be a safety issue, many employers already ban, or at the very least discourage, phones in the workplace where they're not related to the job. A phone can be put in your pocket on silent, but a watch that's always within your sight is a different matter.
I'm not sure about anyone else, but I've never even understood what niche smartwatches are supposed to fill.
