Re: News - 4.2 million PlayStation 4s, 3 million Xbox One consoles sold

I am still staggered by the fact we are in a recession, these new consoles cost a lot, they had sod-all exclusive launch day titles, sod-all must have launch day titles, yet have already sold over 7 million units between them.

Re: News - 4.2 million PlayStation 4s, 3 million Xbox One consoles sold

Microsoft have really shot themselves in the foot in the UK by launching with a huge bug (the 50/60hz problem), and not bothering to include their TV/Media integration services from the get go (not even for the most popular/standard set top boxes).

I'd have bought one on day one had those features been working..it is the big attraction imo

Interesting to finally see some information about the PS4 streaming service though - any word on whether this means we'll definitely have to repurchase all our games? I'm the type of person who will eventually get both consoles (as I did with the previous gen) a year or so apart, but I would go and buy a PS4 tomorrow if I knew I could keep on playing the games I already own on PS3. I have a horrible feeling that we'll have to buy them though...fingers crossed I am proved wrong so they can have my £400! It's not an issue for me with XBO as I only have 4 xbox 360 games

Otherwise there is no incentive to buy one at the moment - not a single PS4 exclusive game worth thinking about yet, whilst I still have 5-6 AAA titles to finish on my PS3..many of my friends are in the same position, and most who have bought a PS4 (and then subseqently traded in killzone after 1 day!) have pretty much switched back to PS3 for the time being.

It will be interesting to see the numbers again in a few months when both companies finish launching their respective killer features

I think PS4 would have sold more in the UK if it was actually in stock anywhere, and I don't mean in stock for 549.99 in a bundle.

I've actually been quite annoyed with the Sony news coming out of CES... Apart from Playstation Now (which I don't trust will work until I see it in action after the OnLive crap) all the news is LOOK AT HOW POPULAR WE ARE!! LOOK AT HOW MANY CONSOLES WE'VE SOLD!!

Great. I got one as well. What the hell can I do with it? Instead of blowing your own trumpet how about showing us what we can actually do with the thing because at the moment I have a £400 netflix box.

That's what amazes me most. So many people seem to have bought them, set them down in the living room, and then gone "hmm, I wonder what I can do with this then?"

Is it that crazy to do things the other way round?

There are 7+billion people in the world.
Half of the global assets are owned by the richest 2%.
up to 0.1% now own a PS4 or XBOne (though it's likely some people have both).

I knew I was doing that when I bought it, I just currently have too much disposable income for my own good. There would be stuff I would be playing if I wasn't a PC gamer but alas I'm only getting console exclusives on my PS4... which there are few.

Yeah that's what will probably prevent me from buying a new console. It's one thing if you do all your gaming on it, but having owned a PS3 for several years and enjoyed Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo, Dynasty Warriors and not much else... you do have to wonder whether it's value for money.

That's why you should have bought an XB1, better launch titles and better games in the pipeline - Froza 5, Ryse, Titanfall, Quantum Break, Halo 5. Everybody has been bleeting on about the "better" hardware in the Playstation 4, if you want good hardware buy a gaming PC that will beat both of them hands down. If you want to invest in an exciting platform backed by the biggest software company in the world when software is going to be the battleground of the next gen consoles then buy the XB1.

Re: News - 4.2 million PlayStation 4s, 3 million Xbox One consoles sold

On the flipside, someone who buys a PS4 now won't need to bother upgrading their hardware for 4 to 5 years at least, and they can buy the games as they can afford them. Moreover,a £200 to £400 laptop is enough to last someone 4 to 5 years.

Anyway, its all good news for AMD as they get some much needed extra income.

Oh I prefer the hardware, ecosystem and controller on the Xbox but the PS4 is the smarter choice for me as a PC gamer. 95% of the exclusive games that are coming out on the XBOne that I'm interested are also coming out on the PC where as there are always lots of Playstation exclusives that go nowhere else (Naughtydog & plenty of jRPG's come straight to mind).

So PS4 it was but to be honest even taking into account the lack of console exclusives I will at some point end up with both.

Thats true, I look at "The Last of Us" and "Uncharted" with envy. If you are a PC gamer then as you say you have the Microsoft exclusives covered off anyway as they will be released on PC as well
