Re: Google teams with Ryanair to boost Euro flight-comparisons

Will it let me exclude Ryanair? That's pretty much my only criteria these days.

I have some advice for finding a cheap ticket on Ryanair: Use Kayak.co.uk to find tickets on an airline that isn't Ryanair. Buy those, and fly on that airline instead.

Surprised that Google would even think about mixing with a brand like Ryanair

Although I prefer easyJet, there's really nothing wrong with Ryanair.

Most of the people who have serious beef with Ryanair have, in all probability, done something idiotic in the past and ended up on the receiving end of a penalty charge. It's really not difficult to print off a boarding pass and turn up on the correct day with a bag that's within the correct hand luggage dimensions and weight. If you're incapable of doing that, then you deserve everything you get, in my frank opinion.

I've flown Ryanair on many occasions and no, it's not exactly glamorous, but I can get quickly from Manchester to Pisa and back again for less than the cost of a train ticket to Newcastle, in a comfortable leather seat.

Like AlexKitch I don't really have a problem with Ryanair as long as you follow their rules.

    1) Double check the airport they are dropping you in... eg. The 'Barcelona' airport is like 200km from the city.
    2) Take hand luggage, confirm it fits within their size
    3) Print boarding pass before going to airport
    4) Eat & Pee before boarding

If you manage all those and you got a £20 return ticket to somewhere in Europe then win!

Oh there is. Just wait for something to go wrong. 4 hours on the tarmac and not so much as a free cup of water.

They are quite bad at leaving you stranded, both EasyJet and Ryanair do their best to avoid helping you when others tend to put you up in a Hotel.

But often they just aren't that cheap, if you need checked luggage, factor in the extra transport cost to and from the regional airport, fact that regional airport has a levy fee, add in a drink or something and it costs more.

They used to be cheap, 10 years ago, hell I remember £20 one way fares including all taxes.

Yep they lost our luggage on a return flight and we were left stranded at the airport. Absolutely zero customer care available at the time, no one answering phone, no one at check in desk etc albeit late at night. Got luggage back 2 days later and they never apologised and we had to fight for compensation.

Re: Google teams with Ryanair to boost Euro flight-comparisons

Not sure quite how widespread across the whole network it was, but a few years ago flying out of Malaga they seemed to have quite the scam running.

The hand baggage size tester displays were definitely not the same size by the departure gates compared to before check in. Funnily enough as everyone was boarding you were required to show your hand luggage conformed to the size requirements and mysteriously the majority of stuff that fitted downstairs had no hope this time round.

Lucky the agents were armed with credit card terminals, funny almost like it was common practice

I've used them, Easyjet and several other carriers and as of late if needing checked bags it's actually been cheaper to fly a proper carrier once all the costs were added up! Plus I actually got snacks/drinks on the plane, had reasonable flight times, flew into airports near to my final destination and could choose to go out of Heathrow instead of having to trek down to Bournemouth or all the way to Gatwick!

Ah I'm always covered by travel insurance so I can just use that instead of relying on Ryanair if **** hits the fan.

Have you head about how badly Ryanair treats it's pilots? No? Maybe because they get sued if they talk about it. Bottom line is, the only pilots who go there are those who can't get a job anywhere else. I'm scared enough flying on Great Lakes.

As much as I agree that it's a rubbish situation to end up in, I must stress that you get what you pay for. Your £15 ticket (Edit: alright, £30 then) to Alicante and back pays for the fuel, aircraft maintenance and wages - it doesn't pay for a hug and a cup of tea if things get delayed. If that's not acceptable to someone, then they need to seriously be flying flag carrier airlines, or even a reputable leisure airline like Thomson, Thomas Cook or Monarch.

Well, in my opinion, the company reflects the attitude of the individual that runs it. And he, and his approach, for me, is a good enough reason for me to never use them.

Wait a moment, it was more like £165 return.

I mean just look right now on kayak for flight to Geneva:
    http://www.kayak.co.uk/flights/LON-G...-20/2014-02-20

Swiss is about the same price as easyjet (or less!).

They aren't that cheap, if you want checked luggage they are considerably more expensive.

Also any airline, regardless of price should dispense free water, even more so when there has been a delay that has more than tippled the journey time.

This isn't some entitled rant, it's more a justification of why I generally avoid using them.
