Funny how they have to bundle LoveFilm with Prime in order to get people to use it, not sure many will stay after that price increase.

I love Amazon prime but don't care for lovefilm
I've been trying to work out if I want prime or not. I will spend time this weekend finally doing what I've meant to do before and going back through the last year's orders and see how much I spent on shipping from Amazon vs their sellers. If it's worth it I'll pay for prime. But not prime plus love film. I do not want that. At all. And I'm confident that prime at £79 is not going to be a saving vs paying premium delivery occasionally and waiting for super saver for the rest.
They'd have to kill off super saver to get people to sign up to prime at the new price.... (or is that tempting fate) Amazon, please do not do that. It would be suicide for your sales figures.
well I will not renew prime at £80, simply open an account every 3 months and take out amazon family for 3 months prime.

Well I guess this will encourage me to try their instant streaming service until October. I'll decide then if I'll keep my Prime account or not.
I'm surprised it took them this long to introduce this over hear.
Just to make sure it's clear - the US price does not include tax (its more like $105 when you add on tax, or you can just take 20% off the UK price to get a fair comparison), and it's only 2 day shipping on their side, not 1 day like we get here.
Personally I am not too bothered - Prime itself works out a great deal for me as I am impatient, and use Amazon a lot. Even aggregating the cost of prime over all my orders, it saves me money compared to buying on the high street. It's awesome for christmas shopping too, as I can shop in dribs and drabs as/when I think of present ideas, and I don't have to worry about shipping delays or paying for lots of postage. Even at £79 a year it's still worth it for me personally.
I am not remotely bothered by the inclusion of Lovefilm instant though, given it has the worst selection of all the providers, and still has not managed to work out how to provide a good way to browse content (particularly when it comes to TV shows!). I'll likely stick with Netflix for streaming tbh.
I guess it's also worth pointing out that I have not had to pay for Prime for over 5 months now, due to Amazon's extension policy when an order arrives late. This should be less of an issue now they have their own courier network (less and less is going through royal mail, who are the ones that tend to be late!)..but even so, if you ever get a late delivery complain to their CS team and they will extend your account one month.

I've only just finished my Prime months trail, at £49 it wasn't really worth me getting (don't own a Kindle, so only next day delivery was useful for me).
I order 3 (or 4, cant remember lol) orders during my trial, and one of them took as long as free super saver delivery sometimes take :-o (2 days).
I have no interest in LoveFilm, used it before and it had pretty much nothing on i wanted, so at £79 there is no way I'd even consider Prime :-(
Used Amazon prime for years now, since we managed to get a lot of one day deliveries for 4 people in the household it was worth it for £49. £79 for a year for something no one is going to use is a deal breaker, so I think we'll have to just go with free deliveries unless there's an option to have prime without this add-on. Shame really, we're one of the lucky families to have rarely had something delayed and our one day deliveries were just that.
My girlfriend has had prime for years now and I have seperate love film account but have never bothered with streaming because my internet sucked and even though i now have speedy fibre broadband I still havent bothered with streaming films.
Both services would work out cheaper but I prefere to have the dvd delivered to my house so i can avoid any streaming errors etc but will have to have words with the other half and see what she thinks as if I leave lovefilm I wont be able to get the same price/package I am on again should I try to rejoin
well I totalled up my amazon postage over the last year or so. Only got to £30 of paid delivery to Amazon that would be eligible for prime instead. If I push back to do a calendar year Dec12-Nov13 I hit £48 delivery charges (inc VAT) So I'm at best break even and worst making a loss if I sign up to prime at £49 per year. If I combine my wife's purchases it might become worth prime. But not at £79 per year. We just never come close.
I can't see an option on the amazon site to only have the prime delivery and not the DVD thing.
Conclusion: I can rest happy that I'm no worse off not signing up to prime, and if this year is anything to go by I am saving money that I would be stuck paying if I'd signed up to prime when I first thought about it a few years back. Win.
Prime is very worth it for me, and I was still paying for lovefilm as well (£49 prime + £6/mo lovefilm = £120/yr)
- so it's a reduction in my costs even at £79/year
I killed the sky sub in favour of lovefilm + netflix (it doesn't have to be either/or) and didn't look back.
