Always happy to see more choice and competition on the market, but they will have to be good to prise me away from Scan.

Same here - Scan's customer service has never left me wanting. Coupled with their relatively competetive prices and fast/reliable delivery, they are always my first choice when buying. I currently use Amazon for all the bits I can't get from Scan and I may try Newegg for some of these. On the other hand, I already have Amazon Prime, so Newegg at price + delivery would be competing 'uphill'.

Nice, been wanting this for years

Scan has pulled questionable tactics on me a couple of times recently and I only really use them for small things now or when their price is way below others as they are too much of a risk IMO.

eBuyer and Dabs are ok but both their sites are badly laid-out.

Be nice to have another in the arena.....and the potential of a shake-up in pricing.

    The more competition, the better.

I've started using Amazon a lot more now due to the lack of hassle in RMAing things. No worries about NFF as long as items are not physically damaged, they're very easy with returns - including unwanted goods. None of this "you were out by a day or two" with distance selling regulations, or partial refunds when things go wrong.

It's just really going to depend on the selection and customer service with NewEgg I think. Most people I know don't mind the extra couple of quid for items if those two come with it.

hopefully they will have same stock options as they have in USA, scan is sorely lacking in any variety of brands, looking forward to this

More competition is always welcome. Hopefully they will have a store further South than Overclockers and Scan.

I wonder if they are considering shipping to other parts of Europe or just the UK (for the time being). Cost is definitely a factor in this for me.

Newegg have a lot of goodwill from fighting patent trolls, so hopefully they will have a bit of recognition to start out with. In the end, as usual, it all comes down to price.

I tend to buy from whoever works out cheapest / quickest, more competition is never a bad thing.

My feelings exactly - I've all-but stopped using Scan for precisely these reasons. My first choices are generally Ebuyer & Amazon, although with the latter I try to avoid marketplace traders. More competition is always good though

Always good to see a new competitor however they need to do a better job than BestBuy. That was so disappointing. I work round the corner from the second store they opened (Hedge End Southampton) and apart from day one deals it was overpriced -Heck even the closing down sale was poor! Cost of delivery will be key here I think...

Re: News - Amazon rival Newegg expected to launch in the UK next month

As others say, the more competition the better

I think they will struggle to compete against the rest of the UK giants though unless they already have compelling contracts with suppliers and are willing to invest millions in advertising/promotions..which they may well do.

A combination of Low prices and US style customer service has served others well recently, fingers crossed it does something good for them

I presume they are staying online-only for their initial foray? I think Best Buy's attempt to crack the market was a failure in large part thanks to their heavy brick and mortar presence, which will have been very expensive..starting out online and building a UK brand before moving into that market sounds much more sensible.

Ha! OT I know, but I used to live in Soton (went to uni there), & remember the Hedge End retail park very well. The Sainsbury's is so big you could spend weeks walking around trying to find what you need!

It was a shame BestBuy failed, there are definite advantages to having a 'bricks & mortar' retail presence. If for nothing else, it gives you an actual person to shout at if their customer service is rubbish!
