When's the Pi 2.0 coming out? I have space left in my drawer for a newer version.

I don't think they're rushing to release a new edition drawer filler.

I guess that's good - one hardware product supported for a long time.
And bad - argh, that ARM11 isn't the fastest (although more than fast enough for many uses of the Pi).

Other ARM boards are dropping in price to be competitive, but they don't have quite the same community of drawer openers and closers around them.

Most people bought these for the wrong reasons (Media PCs, etc) and as such got burned, despite being told it's a bad idea. If you want a mini-machine for things like that, look into the Odroid instead.

My, aren't we all being negative today... drawer liners indeed.

Joking aside, although I didn't buy one myself, (SWMBO put her foot down about the undesirability of "more computer related crap" being bought), I know a couple of folks who did, and are making good use for various uses - Torrent downloader, media server, low-spec NAS attachment for USB crates, etc.

Getting back to the original intent - education use - if it encourages the kids to think more deeply of the workings of a computer, rather than just "how do I run this app in Windows" then I'm all in favour of it.

For what I want to do though, I think I'd need more cpu power (and definitely more ports).

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Why does the big image on the competitions page point here? And the app it's talking about seems broken.

Raspberries are very popular among miners (too).

I still have mine set up with XBMC, works great. Well it did till I moved and haven't gotten around to setting up my content server and network up properly yet... but the pi is still of use, not consigned to a draw to be forgotten about

Re: News - Raspberry Pi hits 2.5 million units shipped milestone

Haha! I love the Raspberry Pi but don't have one. Maybe when I get some left over cash at some point...

But yeah, desk-drawers aside I know a few people who have done some really cool things with thier Raspberries - controllers for parts of their homes, stupid wearable things, even little robots.

Ok... I think that was all one person. Everyone else maybe just has them sitting in drawers. xD
