rofl.in related news, development of the game minecraft on oculus rift has been cancelled due to the creator being "creeped out" by facebook's acquisition.

Well I think it's a good move. OR needs plenty of money behind it if it is to compete with Sony etc. The developers will have the funds they need to produce the kind of product the public want's and hopefully be able to do it within reasonable timescales.

I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same thing if I were in the same situation, but it's still a shame to see.
It's a very sad day for the future of VR, facebook will completely stifle any development. I can see it now, having to sign into facebook just to use the Oculus, the ad's everywhere, constant feed updates when your trying to play a game and of course every action being monitored and reported to GCHQ / NSA !
Then why are they partnering up with a closed in system like facebook?We believe communication drives new platforms; we want to contribute to a more open, connected world
I've been hyped over oculus rift and was even considering getting the new hd dev kit, but this is a a bit of news that has changed my mind.

it feels like Facebook is going on a totally randomized buying spree, much like Google's patenting spree a few months back, just it seems they struck a really raw nerve with this one....

Well... Sony just won the VR battle if there was going to be one.
I imagine this will put a lot of people off quite a bit if not completely, hopefully facebook will try and sell the Oculus fairly cheap to gain traction.
Was quite interested in the Oculus, so hope they don't kill it.
Sony isn't going to win any VR war unless they release it for PC, which I cannot see them doing.
The potential VR market is considerably larger than gaming, even taking consoles into account.
