Quite interesting, although the whole "lost crucial evidence in a crash" puts a different view on it.
And of all things to go after people for.....I actually watched half the film (couldn't bring myself to go any further!) when it was on Sky a couple of years ago.....it is yet another complete abortion of a film churned out by Uwe Boll.

Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
There is a Far Cry movie?
-
Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
I ran across a theory that the sole purpose of Uwe Boll's filmic output was to provide a tax write-off for his investors...

No. Just like there were never any sequels to "The Matrix".

Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
From what I have read about it (never even knew it existed before) it sounds like watching this film should be punishment enough for anyone downloading it. :D

Indeed. Are they admitting they don't have a viable backup plan, if so why not ? I would have thought any lawyers, or whom ever collated the evidence wouldn't risk losing it so easily. Either that or they didn't have any evidence that would stand up in a court of law, and in turn lied (presumably under oath).

My response too - looked up the details and it looks too dire to even earn "C Movie" status. Only upside is that Emmanuelle Vaugier is in it - liked her in CSI:NY. Udo Kier presumably playing his stock creepy dude.

Erm, I was watching Matrix:Revolutions and Matrix:Reloaded a while ago - so what were these* apart from sequels to the Matrix? (* no points for replying "awful" - I'd agree).

Sssshhhhh, it's just bad fan-fic that happens to have been made by Wachowski siblings. Tbh I see V for Vendetta as the 'spiritual' sequal to the matrix
re:OP- Finally, about time there was a victory for sensibility. However bad the movie may have been, the principle of law firms bullying in the name of the studios (often without the studios asking them to) and using illegal tactics is just ludicrous

Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
Knew this will happen, just didn't know it will take this long.

Well thats disappointing! How do you screw up the cinema of a great videogame franchise?

Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
Oh, trust me it's easily done, look how many games to films have been distasters, Mortal Kombat, Streetfighter, Far Cry, Tomb Raider, Doom, the list goes on :)

Never thought of it that way - quite like VfV, found it thoughtful.

Oh the shame of it, I'm going to have to admit buying the DVDs of MK and Streetfighter... :embarrassed:

Start by getting Uwe Boll to make it.

You know... That would actually explain a lot.

I am going to shamelessly say that I did not find the first MK movie a "disaster", and definitely one of the better video game based movies. And looking at the 5.8 rating on imdb, I am not the only one who think it is not masterpiece but certainly watchable (obviously only for fans of the game, and keeping in mind it is special effect heavy movie without a huge budget, based on a gaming genre without much story to begin with, made almost 20 years old). On the other hand, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was so bad, that it is horrible (as opposed to be so bad it's good).

Tomb Raider wasn't a disaster as far as some of the support actors are concerned - They got more work out of it. One of them even got to ditch his awful American accent and play at James Bond! :D
Prince of Persia was pretty good, IIRC...
Final Fantasy was AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING, if only for the eye candy!
Resident Evil 1 was great, but the franchise really needs to give it up now...!
Assassins Creed and Mass Effect, if/when they ever manage to happen, will likely tank and enrage millions of people. :D

Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
I think probably everyone has their own ideas on what makes a good film, for me Tomb Raider wasn't very good at all, and Daniel Craig was around long before that film lol.
Prince of Persia, even though a Disney film was ok actually, quite watch-able even though I didn't really see that much wall running lol
Final Fantasy, absolutely agree, Advent Children had amazing graphics.
I have all the Resident Evil films, I thought the films were ok BUT I haven't played the game so can't really make a good comparison there.
Some games to films do come out ok, I may have been over-critical about Mortal Kombat but I used to play it on the Megadrive and I never saw Raiden once fly across the room to attack so that was kinda disappointing :)

I wasn't a big fan, either. Jolie is horrible.
Dan Craig was 'around' well before, yes... but was he THAT famous? How famous was he after Casino Royale? Which film/show did people most know him from when he walked out in that tuxedo?
Second film has Gerard Butler (who I *did* already know from his earlier works) and both have Chris Barrie, so the TR movies aren't completely bad...!

I'm not normally a Kylie Minogue fan... but her backside really is the star!!
Also, they cast Van Damme, so I didn't think they were taking it that seriously anyway!! :D

Re: News - Copyright trolls lose extortion case against alleged pirates
I really don't know mate, I saw him in Tomb Raider and wondered where I had seen him before knowing I had seen him in another film so if it made him famous from that film, god knows.
Just a bit of trivia for those that watch Marvels Agents of Shield, Chun-Li from the Streetfighter film is Agent May :)

I've done IT work for law firms. They all make lots of backups.
This is convenient speak for "We really don't want to produce this in court as it will make things 10 times worse for us"
