Although I think it's gonna be fun to play around with first person view (mainly for driving), which is something I've done in Gta via mods in the past, this makes me a bit worried for the future of Gta games. Maybe it shouldn't. But it'd be sad to see it get turned into yet another first person shooter. I think Rockstar are just too good at what they do to let that happen, though

Personally, I've always hated the 3rd person viewpoint, breaks immersion totally IMHO but each to their own of course.

This is brilliant news Aside from parachuting (who thought that up?) the biggest frustration with GTA over the years has been atrocious combat. I hate coming to the "shooty bits" in GTA as it always becomes a fiddly mess (a trait of most 3rd person games tbh, not just GTA. There is a reason so many have a Bullet Time concept!).

Done right this will make a huge difference to the game..enough that I will purchase again for the XBO. Will wait and see how the reviews are mind..

I wasn't gonna bother with this, I only played GTA4 for about an hour and got bored, but this does look like a lot of fun in 1st person. Will wait for the reviews but I'm thinking I'll definitely buy this now.

I agree with Spud1 & george1979, now i'll just keep my fingers crossed that it gets properly optimized for PC and we don't get a repeat of GTA4 which was boring as hell with rubbish vehicle controls and a terrible frame rate.

Pre-ordered on PS4 should be a good laugh once again, maybe one day I'll upgrade to the Skynet machine likely needed for this game, from a company known for bad PC ports.

so GTA will be just another shooter.

I hated when it first happened from top view to 3rd person. They made the game so you have to use 3rd person because top was much harder to play, now they converting to first person...
"I am not a fan but kids gonna like it" i guess.

I dont think that GTA will survive long now - for sure this time it will be hit, but next time? There are plenty of other fps, why to choose GTA?

The view will be selectable between first and third person views, not first person only. I also don't think it's fair to say FPS fans are all kids, first person is a more immersive view point and surely gaming is a medium trying to immerse the user as much as possible.

Great call by Rockstar here. This may well tempt me to purchase this game again to play through, having already had it on PS3

Personally think it will make driving harder (I never liked racing games in 1st person) but it will be ace to switch to 1st person for on foot, the shooting bits especially.

For me, there isn't any game that comes close to GTA in terms of replay value. Plus GTA 4 has nothing on GTA 5 tbh, FAR from it. The driving was alot better on 5 than 4.

I'm hoping to pick this up next thurs or fri for PS4! If anyones getting it, add me.

Like you - I played GTA4 for about 1 hour, if that. I found it very boring and gave up.

I've played GTA5 on Xbox 360 since launch (although not much over the last few months)- good quality and fun single player campaign and superb multiplayer madness - well worth the punt and likely I will also get it on PC. Best played with friends (new or old) but you can say that about most if not all MP/coop games.
