I am not looking forward to the future of graphics cards....
Mantle v NVAPI
A-Sync v G-Sync
??? v NVLink
Starting to look like the days of consumer lock-in to the extreme.
Re: News - 'Adaptive-Sync' incorporated into VESA DisplayPort 1.2a standard
Adaptive-Sync is vendor independent, not locked in. It's opening up the previously locked-in alternative.

I agree. I was wondering how many monitors actually came out with G Sync, and if you click through on nVidia's site to look (http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/te...c/where-to-buy) ; you find a grand total of... one. That one monitor Asus launched a while back (and props to Scan for doing such a nice page for one product :D). I think Acer may have another but it is going to be a small club with these chips.
Because Adaptive Sync is in DP 1.2a, there is no reason nVidia can't do something similar other than pride, because that is going to be a bitter pill to swallow.

I'm sure the 'game developers' aren't looking forward to it either...

Why not? A-sync is vendor independent, requires nothing from the game side of things, and will allow developers to be slightly freer with render times.
Re: News - 'Adaptive-Sync' incorporated into VESA DisplayPort 1.2a standard
I'm confuzzled. Is it Adaptive Sync or Active Sync?

As long as the graphics card makers choose to implement it, of course.
That said, since it's part of the DisplayPort 1.2a standard I guess they don't have a choice if they want to sell a graphics card as compatible with that. I just hope they don't behave in a childish fashion and somehow break it in favour of their own proprietary technology.

not just the a-sync side of things....
I'm all for improvements in hardware but the way gpu's are going it seems to be nvidia going for propriety versus amd who are going more open.
You could add opencl v cuda to the list too, I'm stuck with nvidia because the software I use requires cuda, yet performance per pound an ati gpu would overall be better for me if the software supported open-cl. Yes nvidia supports open-cl but the performance is worse than cuda (maybe on purpose).

We all know Jen-Hsun Huang won't use anything AMD related due to his pride. While I really don't care about any other propriety or non-so technology, I think it would be in their best interest to admit defeat with Gsync and push for a standard technology. Most monitors in due time will utilize this revision of DisplayPort, while many will not when it comes to Gsync.
