Both Carphone and Dixons have a huge commitment to delivering the consumer the very best service, product and advice around the connected world.
Well, based on my admittedly limited experience .... can I have some of what he appears to have been smoking?

Although I wouldn't take any notice of my local's staff 'knowledge' I can't really complain about their service, they price matched carphone warehouse (+ bit extra off) when I bought a nexus 7....who am I going to price match against now

And yes I know people complain about pcworld but to be honest their prices aren't anywhere near as bad as they used to be on larger items (laptops etc) although they still rape you with the smaller ones though and their recommendations usually suck or go something like this... yes I'll enter the password so you can actually test out the machine (instead of looking at the pretty login screen)..... so for me I'd buy some items from there purely so if there's a problem it's a quick trip up there, well assuming amazon isn't cheaper/same lol

My local town has 2 carphone warehouse and a pcworld/curry's, they already combined the pcworld and the curry's store and one of the cpw stores is literally 2 doors up....

Imagine how long the 'extended guarantees' will be!

Some, and I stress SOME extended guarantees can be very useful. For instance, John Lewis and their free five-year TV guarantee. My last-but-one TV was the same price, all bar a few quid, in JL as both Currys and Comet (yeah, it was a while back) and both of those latter wanted £180-ish for the guarantee that JL included in the price.

Or, my food processor has a 20-year warranty on the motor. The value of that, to me, is that it implies Magimix are pretty confident in the build quality of that motor.

But by and large, I agree with you on many, in-store after-sale extended warranties. I NEVER buy those. If you want that cover, there are usually better and cheaper available independently. It can be amusing at how hard some stores try to push them, though. If I'm in a particulatly mischievous mood, I have been known to let some sales person try their best to convince me. Usually, that'll be if they've wound me up. But so far, none have succeeded ... in convincing me, that is, quite a few have wound me up.

Richersounds offer 5 year guarantees on alot of their TV's too via their weekely email newsletter too - Add that to their low prices makes them a no brainer, makes a difference.

DSG once had the Link chain of mobile phone stores and pooped that up good and proper. I am surprised they are merging with a high street company considering Dixon stores were removed off the high street (99% of them) 10 years ago after DSG could not compete.

In Bournemouth the largest carphone warehouse has just been turned into a Samsung only store, leaving a much smaller one on the high street. Made me wonder if they were struggling on the high street.
