How would I change an XBone? If I had one - I'd go to my living room, take it out, unscrew some screws, take some parts out, place it somewhere around, ...take everything out the living room, get my PC plug it to my TV and enjoy some master race-only fun.

THE ULTIMATE ONE: the design should look like 360 even resemble it!, the DDR3 ram should be updated to GDDR4, the control pad should have touch pad support, it should have terrestrial digital TV DBT2 support, it should support all windows 8 apps including games! like video converters, VLC, bittorent, KMplayer, MS flight simulator x, etc

Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

One of the biggest things - the PS4s games are all 1080p from what I can see, the xbox ones mostly 720p due to some very odd design decisions despite being pretty much the same hardware as the PS4. It lcd also be a bit smaller, and the hdmi issue could be fixed.

The PS4 isn't without faults. Wheres the media support?

I'd add some more OSes, I don't feel that three is anywhere near enough.

Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

It's a tricky one, because i think they've done everything they realistically can since launch now.

The mandatory kinect and (to a lesser extent) the online-only requirements grated deeply.
I unashamedly HATE motion controls , so i was never going to buy a console that forcibly made you buy into that tech. The always-online was a mere annoyance in comparison.

Now kinect has gone from mandatory to optional, my chance of buying the console at some point has gone from zero to something higher. Add the removal of the always online and i'm happier still.
(PS4 still slightly winning at this point, though i'd consider either if there were games i wish to play that aren't on the PC now turn up)

The problem is that MS have fixed themselves on a lower spec piece of hardware to that of the PS4. Thats now set in stone, you can't now release different versions of the same console, the specs are static. I still think the PS4/XBone split of the market isn't going to change hugely, but MS are going to be permanently stuck on the lower performance spectrum for this generation...

TLDR: MS screwed up royally, but i don't think it'll hurt them hugely, they'll just permanently be playing catch-up this gen

The xbox one is boring. I would like to make it fun. I would paint the xbox one pink with purple spots. That would make it better.

Make the Kinect so that it works in tiny front rooms (the British inner city edition) :-)

Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

It's not a gaming console and that's the problem. For £1-200 more you can build a PC of similar spec and not have all the restrictions of the xbone.
If they had dedicated it to gaming and had the other stuff as an add-on it would have been more appealing but as it stands it's an internet TV you can play games on. In essence a media center PC.

Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

I would have make the effort to launch with the full TV integration in the UK - at least for a few models of receiver.

I chose the XBO over the PS4 mostly on the deep tv/entertainment integration, and although what we have right now works well it's very limited compared to our US cousins. Given Microsoft's relationship with Sky in the UK it's surprising that they didn't at least include sky box integration out of the box. It will hopefully come this year, but it may be too late for MS to capitalise on it.

I'm not one who cares that much about specs in the console arena, I care much more about experience + games which is still great on the XBO..but from a pure marketing standpoint it doesn't look good when the PS4 is running most games @ 1080p, even if for 99% of gamers the difference between 1080p and 720p is negligible...so adapting the hardware to provide similar raw numbers would have helped from a marketing pov, even if I don't think it would improve that console that much.

I don't regret my purchase one bit to be honest, really enjoying the console and I am confident enough that it will survive and won't go the way of the dreamcast. Microsoft can afford to support if i needle and even in the worst case I could just buy a PS4 when they are cheaper in a year or so

    1. Games that start first time. Every time. And not just show you the loading screen then drop back to dashboard.
    2. More stable games/system. To not crash back to dashboard most nights (happens in Titanfall and BF4 regularly).
    3. The ability to stream video and music from your PC or attached drive (which has been basic functionality for X360 for years).

It might be a bit too early in the product's life cycle, but I'd follow up with a digital-only, always-on model. Call it the Xbox One Live or something, take out TV passthrough, take out Blu-ray, take out Kinect, make it much smaller and price it at £249 with a year's Xbox Live included.

Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

Fix the UI, I really hate it.

1st tab (pins) lets you pin roughly 10 apps, there is space for a lot more and you can still select pin on any app, video or game but Pins will still only display 10 pins. The ability to order them would be nice too. or even the ability to create folders to organise pins. Also make full use of the screen not just a section 3 or 4 tiles wide.

2nd tab (Home) is ok, can't really suggest any improvements to that.

3rd tab (Store) just has jump points to different stores, might as well just have a button taking you to the store on the Home tab.

Game Store. Again split into sections: what's new, what's popular, Add-ons. This just feels like a mess. There needs to be some sort of structure here and some way to see all the games not just the ones that are currently being pushed (and prices on screen without having to click into each and every item would be nice too...)

I'd also like for the Purchased/Installed games page to actually show a placeholder for all bought games (whether they're installed or not). Installed games could show a tile (like it does now) in colour, whereas purchased games that are not installed could be in black and white (I would have liked this on the 360 as often I have bought games but due to limited HDD space deleted others and It would be nice to have placeholders there to remind you what games you actually have access to and not have to search through either the downloads list (which is apita, this should have had options for filtering by type from day one) or the store to find the games again). There could also be an option to hide games (if for example you bought a retail game and sold it on, there would be no longer be a reason to include a tile for that game in your list)

One of the best points of the 360 Arcade game section was that all the arcade games had a demo, this is not a requirement for the One (even when the game is on both the 360 and the One). I bought a lot of arcade games on the 360 after playing demos, without that trial I doubt I would have bought as many of them as I did. Microsoft needs to bring back the demo requirement for Arcade games.

Keep the cost of the games in line with the 360, especially since most games are also available on the 360 (case in point - Plants vs Zombies was on offer this weekend, £16 on 360 and £25.99 on One ~£10 difference and I can't see much difference between them (I bought it on the XBONE as I didn't think to check if it was also on offer on the 360, if I had I would have just bought it on the 360) - people will go for the cheaper option, especially when there is not that much difference between versions.
