    Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

    3D Bluray support. It's something me and many other Day One owners have been asking for since the start! I can't see how it can be touted as an all-in-one entertainment system if it means I have to go out and buy a third-party Bluray player for my 3D blurays.

    The UI is too clunky and confusing. They've been so busy to push the Windows 8 UI on as many devices as possible that it's ruined the Xbox One - possibly irretrievably so. It's well documented that the UI saps CPU power (kinect slices and "snap" capabilities etc.), it launched without some of the basic functionality we saw on the 360 (friend notifications, controller battery indicator) and even 6 months after launch is still being fixed.

    Performance parity with PS4. This has to be a priority for Microsoft. That has become the biggest talking point regarding next-gen gaming. Gaming websites no longer talk about the playability or unique selling point that games offer. Headlines for games now tell you the title of the game and what resolution they run on PS4 compared to Xbox One. If it ain't in the headline, it literally 2 or 3 sentences into the review or article. Microsoft need to ditch whatever they need to to see that parity is achieved, and clearly ditching Kinect is a step in the right direction.

    I like my Xbox One, but it could have been a lot better. Microsoft have dropped the ball and it may be too late to retrieve it...

    Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

    Add the 360's "Auto sign in" option back in rather than have Kinect's facial recognition sign in (which doesn't always work), I find it annoying when I have my nephew playing a game and he gets stuck and asks for my help with a tricky bit only for the xbox to suddenly kick us back into the game's menu because it's detected the user has changed (because he's passed me the joypad.

    I know I could go through the settings and tell the xbox not to use the kinect to sign in (which in all fairness would probably solve this problem) but then I would have to take that extra minute to sign in every time I boot the console up.

    I had this issue and fixed it with 1 simple step - press and hold the power button on the unit for more than 20-30 secs. When it loads up next you'll get the green logo screen first but since I did this as Forza used to lock up, I've had no problems at all

    As far as I can tell, you either have to log in manually or use the Kinect's facial recognition feature to log in (which doesn't always work for me). You can disable it on an account basis, I've disabled it for the kids accounts as they're back and fore my room constantly whenever I'm playing, and it gets annoying when it keeps signing them in - or worse, detecting a player change 'cos one of them has picked up the joypad while I'm dealing with whatever it is the other one wants - which can result in the game resetting itself (Killer Instinct is fond of doing this))

    I don't own an xbone so I wasn't doubting you, just a little incredulous that they would remove auto login...

    +1 more for Steam (and PS4 , I don't own one of them either )

    Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

    It's such a simple feature that I can't believe it's been omitted, I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious and it's possible (but I'm not holding my breath).

    Don't get me wrong, I do like the XBOne, but there are so many things that were working perfectly well on the 360 that are missing on the One that needs to be addressed... it could definitely have done with a bit more development time before being released.

    The lack of games (and the games that are being released on both the One and the 360) is not helping either.

    Interesting discussion - not necessarily for the suggestions which, to be honest, are pretty predictable (more horsepower seeming to be very popular). No, what's interesting me is the reports of the drawbacks from the XBone owners.

    Not to rub salt into the wounds, but I'm profoundly glad that I didn't do the "early adopter" for the XBO like I did for Kinect!

    Re: Features - QOTW: How would you change the Xbox One?

    For starters I'd make the batteries in the controller rechargeable. Then I'd invest heavily in first-party titles. Exclusive titles(not exclusive content as used by EA) make me choose one console over another. I'm a PS guy but I'd like to see Xbox do better because without them Sony would shaft people like me.

    As a side note I'd like Single Player games that can be played without an internet connection. This one is aimed at no one in particular. Except for Destiny. I really want to play Destiny when it comes out but I can't because internet is not only over expensive where I live but also crappy.

    I won't buy one any way, so this thread has only confirmed that decision,

    I think Microsoft need to sit down and work out what the ps4 has and what the XONE doesn't have so they can rethink their strategy.

    That may be true, but I think it's more complex than that.

    As an existing X360 owner, and one pretty happy with my X360 experience, I was MS's natural market, low-hanging fruit for a sale. Yet, they comprehensively blew it, not least by foisting Kinect on buyers whether they wanted it or not. Some did, some no doubt weren't much bothered either way, and then there's people like me that are simply not, now or ever, putting such a device in my lounge unless I can be 100% sure it's only on when I both know it's on and actively want to use it.

    It's not only that, but in addition to working out what PS4 got right, MS ought to do some thinking about why a significant proportion of existing Xbox owners have rejected the XBone.

    That's easy.
    1. Too expensive (although they now seem to be working on that);
    2. No backward compatibility. Ok, neither does the PS4, so maybe that's an unreasonable expectation;
    3. As stated above, the "need" to have Kinect - although like the price we're now seeing some backtracking on that;
    4. Kinect failed to live up to the promises made. Specifically it STILL seems to need a sizeable room to use - if it won't fit in the typical Barratt (* although other builders are available) bedroom then it's a fail for a lot of folks. Trouble is that there's a lot they could do with Kinect, like voice and gesture recognition - but the current system seems to be exclusively geared towards full body stuff - and who wants to stand for the length of a typical gaming session?
    5. Games too expensive by around £10;
    6. Console is too ugly to sit in a living room setting - the '360 with it's glossy finish etc at least looks reasonable.
    7. Changes to online services making them unattractive;
    8. PS4 has a lot of exclusives (and PR for them) e.g. the claim of "60 minutes exclusive content" on PS4 edition of Watch Dogs. Where's the similar for XBone?
    9. Perception that the PS4 is technologically superior - e.g. XBox being limited to 720p when PS4 does 1080p;
    10. All those PR cock ups when the XBone was launched.

    Like you Saracen, I would have marked myself down as a XBone certainty - heck I even pre-ordered Kinect for the 360. But those points above made the XBone a non-starter for me, and I'll stick with the 360 until it's worthless and do my main gaming on PC. Only downsides being that I'll miss out on the latest Forza, and my "capacious" 500GB "apps" SSD has proven to be inadequate (90%+ full!).
