    Of course, if MS had followed previous OS version naming conventions, Windows 8.1 would surely have been named Windows 8 SP1?

    But somehow their attempts at forcing Metro backfired so much that they had to re-brand Windows 8. See we are not (totally) powerless in the face of arrogant corporations.

    I think it's more to follow phone OS convention - Android users etc. get excited about version updates, and in the phone world windows 8.1 was a huge improvement over 8.0
