    How wide are 14-inch widescreen notebooks?

    You would think such a question would be relatively simple to answer. However, it would seem that the standard aspect ratio and resolution have yet to be set.

    To date, only three notebooks have been released with a 14-inch widescreen display, and they all use a 14.0-inch screen with 1280×768 pixels (15:9 aspect ratio). However, the coordinators of one of the bodies involved in defining standards for the industry is proposing the standard should be a 14.1-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio (at resolutions of 1280×800, 1440×900 pixel, 1680×1050 and 1920×1200), and sources suggest that notebooks adopting this size should be available soon.

    Shouldn't it be 14.0 inch at 4:3 ratio?

    Not if it's a widescreen monitor.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Ahhh, then it should, by the definition of widescreen, be 16:9 ratio. Apologies!

    I'll look into it.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    My 15.4" Widescreen lappy runs at 1280 x 800 so why dont they just use that. Or in fact scrap the 14" and just supply 15.4" TFTs as standard. I doubt there would be much of a market for 14" widescreens as the movies buffs would want bigger (ie bigger = better).
