Recommend any good joysticks? Been looking at X52Pro, but they are hard to find and I hear they are being discontinued...

I'm looking forward to another Elite game. Loved playing Elite Plus. I remember when first seeing the Mass Effect trailer and hoping it was like Elite... didn't turn out that way obviously, but glad they're making this.

Most people are going with the X55 Rino or the insanely expensive Warthog I believe

Just need to move house and it will be the Rino and Rift DK2 for me :-)

The X55 Rhino is the current favourite. I'll likely be getting one when I have the cash.
Some say it's a bit plasticky, but still a very good HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) for the money. Supplies are limited at the moment as shops are only just building stock.

CH Products are reknowned for being long lasting. Those that have broken are fixable with simple parts from places like RS Components. Their designs haven't really changed in a number of years and they look very '80s. The sticks also have both a light spring and a long 'throw', which makes a lot of sense for some flight games. Depends on your preferences.

The Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog is the top end and apparently very nice, but is designed around the A-10 Warthog flight simulator. A lot of people have also said it ultimately doesn't feel so good when used in other games.

The X-65 Pro HOTAS is another high end one, but the stick doesn't move at all. It snses force/pressure and controls things that way. Too weird for some.

The X-52 and X-52 Pro are still around, albeit it scarce. However, since MadCatz took over Saitek, there has been a notable drop in product quality, so you may end up with a dud. Buying second-hand may net you a proper Saitek one.

    Those are the big ones.
Outside that, you have a few cheap-end ones here and there which do nicely, although most are quite old now too.
The Logitech series has always been pretty good, especially the ones with Force Feedback. There's a couple of Thrustmaster ones that are decent too.

Personally, I picked up a cheap Saitek Cyborg FLY 5 to use in the interim.
The base folds up, it has twin throttles, lots of buttons and is very adjustable.
However, the adjusty bits seem a bit cheap/loose and you can feel this during fine control, especially as the spring is very hard, which makes fine control even harder.

Cheers for the info, x55 seems to be the people's favourite. I still might check out that x65 though as it sounds intriguing (just for curiosity).

PS I have the same moving house issue Going to get it for my new "simulator room". Thats a pc and joystick! Perhaps occulus rift too

*Sits waiting patiently for the game to be finished before I get my bog standard kickstarter edition*

I must admit I've been ignoring all the marketing gumph coming from them. I've paid my money and I just want the finished game delivered

OK I played the original Elite back in the day, outside of pretty graphics, in what way does this game advance the original game? From the vids and info I have seen all I can think is it's exactly the same as the original with no advancement to the theme. I'm asking to be shown how wrong I am and pointed in the right direction on this. I want to get stoked for this title but so far all I can say is, been there, done that. Puzzeled???

The core is absolutely a remake, it is intended to be, think of it like the Elite that was in our heads while the reality was black and white wireframe :-)

That said, the things that are a major iteration on the original are:-

    1. Simulated heat based sensor machanics, run low power and go undetected
    2. Full market simulation with procedual events acting as stones in the pond. Think fammin = oppertunity
    3. Player actions in faction wars effect the outcome
    4. multi ship ownership (BBC only had the single player ship) at the same time (not multi control though)
    5. Multi-Player, hybrid online and offline at the same time (you can play single player but still get the dynamic market from the on-line side
    6. More, just the ones off the top of my head.

Bottom line though is that this is the game Elite was in our imaginations but in reality

Re: News - Elite: Dangerous action shown in special E3 trailer

The gameplay of the original was pretty spot on whch is why so many of us in the early 80s put in hundreds of hours to get up to Dangerous or Elite.

I think with an improved trading system and perhaps some mission type stuff it could be spot on. nmot personally all that sold on multiplayer but can see the appeal.

I do prefer the slighy dirty/grimy rough and ready feel of the graphics compared to the rather clinical looking Star Citizen.

Plus, there are now further planned extras, such as being able to fly Atmo and land on planets, even get out and explore around a bit (without going full CoD combat like Star Citizen sounds like it will).

Having played the first Alpha missions on a friend's system, I am already sold. Even if that's all the game ends up being, it was already enough highly-polished fun that I would be delighted to spend a couple of years jigging around in their space!

As for the X55 - Said friend just got one, so I'll be able to check it out tonight or tomorrow and get a proper look in for myself!
